First good dumping of snow today in Cumbria

Is it snowing in Cumbria now?

I'm in Newcastle and we have no snow, good job because I took my motorbike to work today!

Hopefully it doesn't snow before 4 o clock otherwise I'll have to leave my bike :/

To be honest I suspect we are still at 0 days 'benefit'.

As you can't exactly go roaring away in the snow with winter tyres on, the benefit over summer tyres is where winter tyres enable you to go where/when summer tyres won't. I suspect the snow level in Cumbria at the moment is such that you can still drive on summer tyres. As you have to be equally as cautious, the benefits so far are minimal...

You really have to measure days below 7 deg C for this one. My sons GF has Winter tyres but works nights so travels to and from work at colder times of the day.

Anyway if you can get a set of cheap wheels then Winter tyres make sense as you only wear out one set of tyres at a time you just have to own two sets for twice as long. I got a set of wheels for £40 which is nothing compared to the cost of reasonable tyres.

Oh and although you don't have to you should tell your insurance company especially if the wheels are different, steel vs alloy, narrower or wider etc. It costs nothing and keeps your insurance valid.

Andi.

PS don't get confused between winter and snow tyres.

Woohoo, Snow! I love snow. Can't wait for it to get all the way down here so I can go make snowmen and throw snowballs!

What..? You mean this isn't actually a thread about snow? Its just an attempt to justify winter tyres? Oh, :(

When I left for the Airport on Friday morning early I had ice on my car, I nearly cancelled EVERYTHING as I was worried I might not be able to get out the drive and assumed all the planes at the 'wintery' Birmingham airport would have been stuck and unable to fly. Luckily I managed to get my flight but for a moment there it was touch and go I feel.

I'm just about to head to London City Airport to fly to Zurich. Fortunately, they all use winter tyres there, so I will be 100% safe and intend to drive the company 9-5 Aero at the 250 KPH limited top speed up the side of a mountain.

Asleep.

I thought i would use this thread rather than start a new one to alert people to the fact it is not currently snowing in stafford however it is heavily overcast and the moist tip of my left index finger estimates 6 degrees

I live 8 miles from Stafford, I am now looking out of my window across the fields towards the 'Stafford Valley' and I too can confirm there is no snow and all is good.
