Ok, ease off the insults a bit now.

To OP obviously hasn't created a masterpiece, but he was attempting a new technique and in that I think he's been quite successfull. yantorsen, you now need to go out and take a decent picture, and if the scene calls for it, use this technique. but don't rely on tecnique to make a good shot. Composition, content and exposure are all more important that technique or processing method. :)
 
To be fair Warhol was attempting to push the boundaries of society's conception of art (the whole destruction of the artistic process thing blah blah) whereas this is a photo of a shoe

You sure its not attempting to push the boundaries of the forum's conception of photography (the whole destruction of the artistic process thing blah blah). ;)
 
I cant see the HDR one because its TOO ****** BIG. So I wont comment on it.
In the original, your shoe is overexposed because its just too white. Get some dirt on it, you can do this while you're outside taking pics of things other than shoes :D

What are you looking at it on, an eeepc? *shakes head*

Get a bigger monitor!:p

3. HDR is a useful tool when used in the right circumstances, taking a HDR photo of a shoe in the middle of a table doesn't qualify.

5. As for applying the HDR technique it's been done quite nicely, there're no horrible halos or anything like that, it's brought out the creases quite nicely. But the original picture is not good, and as such just applying a technique to it is not going to change that fact.

And as for the andy worhole thing, it's not to my tastes. But it is perfect for a stock picture

well I just needed something to experiment on, and I think your a bit norrow minded.

there are some great works of art based around shoes.

yes I know, I have plenty of good shots, but I don't normally make a habbit of taking multiple exposure pictures of the same thing, so I couldn't apply the effect to anything else I have.

I said artwork, not photography, but there is some good shoe photography, theres one of some old worn out brown leather boots, we looked at it in school, no idea how it was done, or anything.

besides that's not the point, art/photography is not supposed to confine to society, but be different. However I'm not suggesting my shoe is especailly pushing artistic boundries :p
 
I think at the end of the day the shoe wasn't intended to be anything special, it was simply to 'test' the software and his abilities. To be honest the effect that it had was good, but it's in no way a great photo... Just give him a chance to apply what he's learnt to something else. Not everyone can get out and start snapping straight away, it's not always convienient, and taking shots indoors requires a lot of imagination and creativity to make everyday objects look interesting.

I'd certainly say though that he's made the shoe a lot more interesting to look at, and it's been given a bit of character and a worn out sort of look to it (like it's had some use and a life) - something it didn't have in the original photo. i.e. some mass produced trainer with no unique traits.
 
ok, I found some pictures of my last holiday wales, but only had two pictures to create a HDR image, so it looks a bit dodgy in patches, but here's what I got...
