hey guys cool forum got going on here.

ok, im planning on building my own comp, only built one b4 with a mate like 4 years ago.

so iv been looking at an i7 build of course. the build is gonna be for work and play, i do 3d animation so i need to to run my 3D software, but i also wanna play some games on it.

here is the spec so far...

Intel Core i7 920 2.66Ghz (Nehalem) (Socket LGA1366) - Retail £252.99
Asus P6T Intel X58 (Socket 1366) PCI-Express DDR3 Motherboard £204.69
Corsair TX 750W ATX2.2 SLI Compliant Power Supply £109.99
OCZ 6GB DDR3 PC3-10666C9 Gold Low-Voltage Triple Channel Kit (6 X 2GB) £139.9
Noctua NH-U12P SE1366 CPU Cooler (Socket LGA1366) £57.49
Western Digital Caviar Black 500GB SATA-II 32MB Cache - OEM (WD5001AALS)£56.34
Antec 300 Three Hundred Ultimate Gaming Case - Black (No PSU) £50.59
Samsung TS-H653F 22x DVD±RW SATA Dual Layer ReWriter (Black) - OEM £16.09

total so far £900.80

ok so i have not priced in a graphics card yet, im gonna use the one out of my old comp for the mean while, 6800GT. until i can save for a beast. i also plan on having a go at over clocking? will need some tips on that when i come to it.

should i get the slightly more expensive 920 with the 3 year warrenty or not?

i need some advice on could i save some money on the build?

will the case be able to hold all of this junk in its trunk or do i need a bigger one?

is the 750w PSU over board? but i may plan on getting another hard drive some where donw the line and also with the overclcoking i will need the extra power.

and also some advice on a good graphics card? preferably nvidia for 3d software purposes.

cheers guys

Daniel

get the OEM version of the CPU, you could even have a look at the i7 bundle they do, saves a few quid and is good budget set up, here, Id stick with the 750W, you dont need it all now but it does give you that room for future upgrades including dual gfx cards if needs be, get the 640gig HDD, they have denser platters so run faster. when it comes to gfx card you'll prob be looking at a 285, though you could get a 260 which would more than suffice and you may be able to afford it now if you get that bundle and save some pennies

i have like 1200 saved which i am willing to spend, but wanna try and save money here and there.

seen the bundle deal, really good value, the only reason i dont want to get it is cus the mobo only has 4 slots of ram, want to go for the full 12 gb of ram for the 3D work i do, if i had a smaller budget i would so go for the bundle but i have a bit more money so may aswell spend some more for better components.

resolution wise, i am running on 2 19 inch monitors at the mo, but i would like to in the future get duel 20-22inch if possible.

:)

cheers for helping guys

ok so the build is now at....

Intel Core i7 920 2.66Ghz (Nehalem) (Socket LGA1366) - OEM
Asus P6T Intel X58 (Socket 1366) PCI-Express DDR3 Motherboard
Corsair TX 750W ATX2.2 SLI Compliant Power Supply
OCZ 6GB DDR3 PC3-10666C9 Gold Low-Voltage Triple Channel Kit (6 X 2GB)
Western Digital Caviar Black 640GB SATA-II 32MB Cache - OEM
Noctua NH-U12P SE1366 CPU Cooler (Socket LGA1366)
Antec 300 Three Hundred Ultimate Gaming Case - Black (No PSU)
Samsung TS-H653F 22x DVD±RW SATA Dual Layer ReWriter (Black) - OEM

£884.70

do you guys think the case will be ok, will it have good enough cooling and space?

cheers again

any other info would be great.

:)

case should be fine but if youre worried look at the 1200, considering your budget you can afford it, the 1200 is ample for anything, and could be carried over to your next system if needed

Are you set on the ASUS motherboard? After considerable research I went for the Gigabyte board see signature. See my experiences with overclocking with it. Running at 4.0ghz and well pleased.

See this thread..

If you read these reviews you might want to consider it. Also the conclusions makes some claims against the ASUS board. It is subjective as we know, but I am well pleased and I never thought I would ever go back to Gigabyte.

hey dudes,

thanks for the advice gun runner. i think i may get that one, just seen another overclocked bundle on here, at 3.6 with that mother board for like £570. may look into that cus i have never overclocked b4 and this one is already donde.

also im looking at this case now,

Akasa Omega Aluminium Case - Black (No PSU) £131.09 inc VAT

its seems to have loads of space, and from the review seems like a good choice. whats do you guys think? any1 got it?

cheers

Daniel
