Hi Guys,

Received a Fuji 9500 for Xmas, been taking a few pictures getting to grips etc, took it into work today and took a few pic on my lunchbreak, weather was pants so was just taking a few in B&W mode (yea i know i should have taken normal then convert in PS but was only messing about)

Just wanted to know what im doing wrong etc what i could do better just some general C&C for a Beginner

This one im annoyed about because its blurred :-( and i really liked it at the time, might go back tomorrow with mini tripod for a better pic of it :p

No. 3 is very nice. A tad of on the soft side but I'm guessing you didn't sharpen after resizing for the web?

Not a bad effort for your first go out, at least you didn't take any flower macros ;)

Keep snapping :)

Cheers dude, no none of these have been edited in PS yet, if you were to see the full size of that its very blurred, the lighting was bad and was rushing with people constantly walking down there lol will have another go soon, LOL no flower macros for now although thats all the GF wants me to take pics off

Looks very much like Winchester Cathedral (is no 3 the side passage on the right where 1 second of Da Vinci was filmed). Some nice shots (imo), I'm going to try and take my A630 down there at the weekend to have a play sometime.

Correct on both accounts :p and i didnt know a second of Da Vinci was filmed there :o i work just off the high street so can see the cathedral all day, and in front of me i can see the top of some other old building lol, its where the cinema is might be a church not sure but can see the top of it over the rooftops, might go picture that for my next session and put try the techniques i need to learn :p

Could well be The Screen, it was converted into a cinema from an old church, nice little cinema too, got more comfy seats than the venues in Soton/Basingstoke.

For the shots of the dog I would add a little fill-in flash to add a catch light to the eyes and for the second one focused on the eye rather than the nose. As robmiller said, readup on composition, particularly the rule of thirds and keep taking lots of pictures, I've found that's the best way to find out what works and what doesn't.

I quite like your 3rd B&W one, it works well with the old stone architecture.

Ohh... I quite like that one. Longer exposures work really well with streams like that.

Not too keen on the metal fence in the top left though, can you get any further over to the left and shoot towards the much nicer wooden fence on the right hand side?
