Of Linux Ubuntu; amazing. :D

It's the first time I've ever used something other than Windows and I think I may be using it a bit more :P.

It's super sexy and also faster than Windows too :P.

What are everyone elses views on Linux?

Ubuntu has made Linux the little bit more accessible to the desktop market, it is a brilliant OS in my opinion and although I did have some problems during installation (due to niggles with my graphics card), with my new card it was a piece of cake. The problems I had did serve a purpose though in learning some of the working of the operating system.

My PC is at least as fast as it was with windows in loading apps etc. The customization is endless. There is plenty of support for new programs and this is still increasing, and if you do have compatibility issues Wine works pretty well. Package installation is top notch linking you to a good library of applications.

And of course its FREE!!! :D

i didnt like ubuntu, however i use fedora core 6 as my main OS with windows in vmware for .docx files and as a dual boot for games. linux > windows for power, customisability. windows > linux for games and compatablility and getting everything setup.

I've been using Ubuntu as my main operating system for a few days now, with my only prior experience being a server install, and a few desktop installs that didn't last long.

If I can get the dual monitor issue sorted out I can see myself using it a lot more. I really like being able to quickly get software from the console, and I like the look of Ubuntu. There are a few issues I think should be sorted, for me personally it would be to make the setting up of dual monitors as quick as it was in Windows XP, i.e. a couple of minutes, and it should be done from a dialog, not by changing the configuration file, although I suppose this is XServer's fault, however Fedora Core 6 did have a good utility that helped a lot.

I am setting up a blog where I can record little tips and tricks I learn as I use Ubuntu, and ask questions to people; and I'm hoping it will be fun to do really.

In what way is it faster than XP please? I've always found it most sluggish; boot times, shutdown times, opening menus, extracting files, copying files... you name it.

I think Ubuntu is recognised as being quite a bloated and lardy distro these days, compared to others.

I'm loving it.

And now that I've finally got Flash installed on x64 I'm going to be using it near 24/7 :D

I found it to be faster in almost all of those, except I havent tried extracting yet.
