Hi guys, I bought the THQ pack off Steam and I had to d/load Steam as i'm a first time user of Steam. Now it seemed to install okay but it is updating itself and has been stuck on 26% complete for what must be a couple of hours. I presume this is not normal.

Any ideas anyone. Shall I uninstall then reinstall?

Thanks.

Go into your steam folder on your hardrive & delete the "Client Registry blob" file, then restart steam.

Has it paused itself? Sometimes my updates do that. Go to the downloads page and click the pause/resume button once or maybe twice, see if that gets it going again.

Considering how much money they must make, steam seems really unstable. For me, it's always slow and it tends to crash at least once a day. If I've left it minimised for a few hours then sometimes it won't start up again. I have to end the process.

Again thanks for the suggestions. I have gone into Safe Mode with Networking. No joy, you get an error message, it just says you must first connect to the internet. I clearly am connected to the Internet.

Had a problem the other day with the Steam Client stuck at 50% on updating and had to un-install and re-install it.

If you do go to re-install it make sure that some or all of your start-up items are disabled just in case some third party application may be interfering with it.

Apparently this getting stuck on updating problem is quite common though thankfully I've only ever encountered it the once and Steam has been brilliant otherwise.

Never had a problem myself, seems remarkably stable.

Horses for courses like, but bear in mind that their servers are probably being nailed thanks to the current sale.

Just to say - I'm amazed you've gone this long without using steam! To many here it'd be like saying "Yeah, you've got to run your PC with just the basic windows VGA driver!". :p

I done what you suggested, it got to 99% this time but then got stuck at 99% so I turned off Zonealarm firewall tried again and it has now completely installed so thankyou very much for that. I am a happy man :)
