think the ATI crossfire only worked for the low-end cards though.

Maybe it'll be easier with the added bandwidth of PCI-E 2.0 , but there arent any SLi PCI-E 2.0 boards yet.

780i should be out very soon. :)

(680i with a br-04 chip aka nforce 200 chip that enables pci-e v2)

Perhaps we might see a hack of some sorts on that platform?
 
Seeing as most current GFX cards dont use PCI-E 1.1 x16, then there should be plenty of slack bandwidth with a PCI-E 2.0 16x platform, as long as the hardware can run that way.

Not sure what data throughgput runs over the SLi bridge to whether it'd be able to carry all the data.
 
What I think this could be really good for is triple monitor gaming.
Imagine three 24" monitors each with their own GTX.
That's a lot of eye candy and would be an amazing setup :)
