Be gentle... I am looking at getting rid of my PC as I only ever use it for Photo processing in Lightroom and Internet and the usual word processing etc. I don't game on it anymore as I have a console.

I am thinking of getting a Macbook Pro when I move to Canada (next month) due to potential savings on the dollar rate. I am happy to buy refurb (any issues with this?)

Refurbished 15.4-inch MacBook Pro 2.8GHz Quad-core Intel i7 with Retina Display

Originally released February 2013
15.4-inch (diagonal) Retina display; 2880-by-1800 resolution at 220 pixels per inch
16GB of 1600MHz DDR3L SDRAM
768GB Flash Storage
720p FaceTime HD Camera
NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M with 1GB of GDDR5 memory

$2,821.28 (£1700 approx)
(EDIT : In the box Refurbished MacBook Pro, 85W MagSafe 2 Power Adapter, AC wall plug, and power cord. Do I need anything else apart from software)

Exactly the same model on the UK store is £2,069.00

Do I need something this powerful? Or can I get away with a lower model? Should I just spend as much as I can afford to go with?

Thanks

The 16gb of ram is well worth getting, I have 8gb and I'm finding mavericks uses a hell of a lot of ram although I'm not having any performance issues. I doubt you would notice the speed boost of the 2.7ghz processor over the 2.3 on the base model (or 2.0 as the new one seems to be) Obviously the amount of storage depends on your needs. 256gb is plenty for me and I have over half the space left over.

The retina screen is very nice to have although can suffer with ghosting, my one has just had to go back for a replacement screen which the invoice said cost £438 (luckily I have 3 years apple care so it didn't cost me a penny).
