First Mini-STX motherboards launched, based upon Intel 5x5

I can't see it taking off to be honest:

- it's not actually much smaller than ITX - so case design isn't going to radically change overnight (whilst losing the option of a PCI-E expansion slot)

- If you don't mind losing a PCI-E expansion, then it's unlikely you will be worried about having a socketed CPU (in which case it could be even smaller)

Along with the fact that by time you come to upgrade it will be a new socket and you will have to buy a new board. Pretty pointless really.

Yes, same thing with CPUs with integrated graphics... I want a small system with a real GPU (not low profile) & have more options than the SG05, like why can't you get microATX cases that are just wide enough (& don't go up in height) that fit a dual width gpu in the end stot, but not jump to HTPC width? Like a Element Q sized MicroATX (or mITX with dual slot) & a little higher so a GPU would fit would be great...

LOL I STILL have a Hiper Media Chassis that is exactly that. Its about the size of a DVD player high and supports a dual width gpu beside the board. Unfortunately the psu died a while ago.. Which is not a surprise at all..

I'd rather R&D money was spent bringing Mini DTX back tbh. Get a GPU AND a sound card or PCI-E SSD going would be epic. Or a sound card and satellite card for a proper HTPC.

Yes, I thought they were sold as MicroATXs but maybe not... If it is true, why? It would make sense to sell them a Mini DTXs... Ofcourse there are DACs, but still it would be awesome to have a mDTX case slightly wider then the board for 3 slots & 7ish tall...

Pic(s)? I am obsessed with SFFs (the SG1 is not a SFF IMO) I would so design a case but CADs are hard & Protocase is limited...

:) I would love to do a system in a NES (with pc cutouts) like case, more vents, just wide & high enough for a mITX board with a reg. height dual width GPU... Just give it a slim ODD bay & a 3.5 so 3.5 i/o panels would fit... That way you can upgrade I/O without getting a new case...

agreed, if you dont want a pci-e slot, buy one of the several nuc+equivalent system.

It makes no sense really, why not try to revive mBTX? It is a waste with Pico/Nano ITX & NUC out there...
