First OC, Asus BIOS - help needed!

Guys I've had this rig for about a year now and I'm ready for some OC'ing...

I've read the stickies and guides (from this site and others) and I've had a good go. I started by increasing the CPU ratio from 16 to 17 then 18, at 18 it was unstable so buttoned it back to 17.5. Then I increased the CPU BUS frequency from 200 to 205 and then 210.

I've got it to 3.69GHz.

It runs prime95 on blend for an hour, reaching a max temp of 64C. Is this safe enough? Within Coretemp I have set the Overheat protection tab to shut down after 60secs at 64C. I remember reading somewhere this was about right but I'm open to suggestions...

I'm pretty sure I can get more out of it with some expert help from you guys.

See photos of my Bios Setup.

I know that leaving so many options on Auto is far from ideal but, frankly I don't understand what to alter or what order to alter it and whether the values need to go up or down!

Please give me some simple instructions as to what to alter, in what order and how to do it. I've included the photos because part of my problem is that there seems to be about 20 different names for the same thing - which confuses me, so if you can use the same definitions as are in my BIOS I would be grateful.

Thanks
Shane
PS RAM is DDR3 PC3-10600 (1333MHz)

what cooler are you using?
that ram is seriously going to limit any overclock you will be able to reach, i would recommend selling it and getting 2x2Gb sticks of 1600Mhz ram,
64c is too hot, AMD's thermal limit is 62c at which point the chip will throttle down, ideally you want max temps to stop around the 55c mark,
Also bring the voltage down, you should be able to hit 3600Mhz with 1.4V

hmmm, not a cooler i'm familiar with tbh, although going by google pictures it should offer better temps considering the size, what fans are you using on it? Is it seated correctly on the board?

Just put everything back to standard (auto) in BIOS and ran Prime95 blend for a couple of hours - reached a high 49C in 21C ambient temp. Is this about right or does it suggest that the fan is not seated correctly?

Seems about right. In my mind using things like prime95, occt etc to gauge max CPU temp is a little over the top, unless you benchmark every day of your life. there is actually wiggle room with the max TDP, have seen some chips working fine at 65-70, never seen a P2 actually throttle it's clock speed to compensate. Your ram was actually fine as it was if you are only changing your CPU multi, which I see as the best way to overclock AMD systems.

If you have read the guides I'm guessing you know to alter the HT and other frequencies/voltages the higher you go (not just your cpu vcore) . There is a bit of debate over which is actually best, they don't need raising a lot though (maybe with the exception of the NB-CPU) . Asus usually have colour values when you are going to high, just take note of these, keep i out of the red.

As for max vcore 1.45 is totally in the safe zone and i have been known to have mine in the 1.5/1.55 region for quick benching, I would never suggest anyone who was unsure goes over 1.5v though and you are better sticking to 1.45.

It has however been a while since I had mine at 3.8ghz and I won't be doing it again until I go from passive water cooling to high end air cooling.

Thanks, TheMorningStar, I have read some guides and I do understand that HT and NB frequencies/voltages also need changing but up to now I have left these settings on Auto. I have read that this is not the way to do it, but I am unsure of many things; What is the starting value? How much to change it by? How changing one frquency affects other values/settings.

Any chance someone could post their ASUS BIOS settings for me as a guide?

Cheers
