Hey,

I want to overclock my Intel C2D e6600 CPU so it will reach 3.0 GHZ, currently stock with 2.4 GHZ.

I never done any OC before.

Mobo = GygaByte 965P-S3, and the CPU as above e6600, got arctic cooling freezer 7 pro.

Can I OC the CPU to 3 ghz easily?

I got this software that came with the mobo, can I use it to OC?

What temps should I be expecting to get, currently on idle cpu = 40c.

And regarding the picture ^^^, what if I just use the "easy mode" to OC and keep an eye on the temps?

Thanks!

If you've never overclocked before, a good start is to read the sticky at the top of this thread, helped me out when i 1st started... :D

Also, DON'T bother with windows software for overclocking, you need to be doing your overclocking in the BIOS... Again, read the sticky, as you really don't want to be fiddling with your bios if you don't know what your doing...

I'm sure others will be around to offer more advice... Good luck... :)

i read it, now basically from what i understand:

my multiplier = 9, bus speed = 266 mhz so that gives me 2.4 ghz.

i want to raise my bus speed to 333 so that 9 X 333 == 3.0 ghz

full spec;

mobo gygabyte 965p-s3

twinmos ddr2 667 mhz 2gb

8800 gts

e6600 and artic freezer 7 pro

enermax libarity 500w

Yes that is the way it works. You shouldn't need to alter any voltages to reach 3ghz. Happy clocking ;)

You will easily hit your target. Increase the fsb by 10 incriments until you hit 333 keeping the multiplier at 9. Run orthos stability test for each increase. Also mannually set your memory timming to that as reccommended by manufacturer and put the fsb:mem ratio to 1:1. Good luck ;)

Read through the two DS3 posts in the motherboard forum. The DS3 is the exact same board as the S3.
