Hi Guys,

I have just done my first ever overclock with the below system:

GeIL 2GB (2x1GB) PC6400C4 800MHz Ultra Low Latency DDR2 Dual Channel Kit (GX22GB6400UDC) 1 £149.99
Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro CPU Cooler (Socket 775) 2 £27.98
Gigabyte GA_965P_DS3 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard 1 £84.99
Intel Core 2 DUO E6300 "LGA775 Allendale" 1.86GHz (1066FSB) - OEM 1 £93.99

I have used various settings from this guide http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=17610180&highlight=e6300

the main page gives me most details but it was only going up to 2.8 so i have changed a few settings after reading a few guys comments and have got to 3.1 but it seems to be running hot, please could someone advise if this is very hot and also any suggestions you may have to solve this.

I have attached a pic:

Cheers guys.

Yes m8...that is very hot for 5mins...try reseating Heatsink.

Edit: You would wan't to keep it @ around 60c load...after reseat if no better either lower your o/c and vcore or buy a new H.S.:)

do you need to put that much voltage through the cpu to get the clock that high?

i get same clock with 1.29v on a 6300 and a ds4

Nice first clock ricky ;) as said earlier try a bit less cpu volts and see if prime is stable if not lower your overclock i am sure you could hit around 3ghz with less voltage and that would still be a nice speed to run at , also the freezer 7 is a good cooler but by no means the best , hell i am using the stock cooler and its ok until you start pumping some more volts through the cpu :p .

hi guys,

so i have played around with my first overclock now and im getting the below results. If any of you have an comments on things i may have done wrong, or what you would recommend doing to change it etc please let me know!

current bios screen shot shows 440FSb, but that is now 455. everything else is the same.

Cheers guys, thanks to Mark for the help as well!

ricky.

Looks very good RickyDVT :) i would still be tempted to lower the vcore slightly and see if you can run @ the same speed so the temps are lower 60c on prime , bios settings look pretty good to me .

I still don't understand why people think the temps should be kept under 60°c. It wont even start to throttle untill 85°c, thus, by intel's specification, it should be ok to run up to this temperature.

Keep up the good work, i do agree that you could probably lower the voltage though, but if you are hell bent on hitting 3.2, try and get there 1st, and then lower the voltage until it becomes unstable, then raise back up to the previous stable voltage.

i personally find my overclock less stable above 60.

Ok, cheers for all your help! i was completely lost before i started it and didnt have a clue what i was doing, but now i understand it more its great! makes me wanna keep pushing it, but i think i will stop at 3.2 though!

It also makes me wanna try overclock my GFX card (7950GT) but i ant got a clue what i do there!

Wouldnt mind a new case now either lol.

ATI tools for the graphics card.
U can get a good boost from those cards, remember to do some testing with the ATI tool ( scan for artifacts (can't spell )) to make sure she is stable.

Nice clock thow

Hi Guys,

Just to give you a bit of an update,

I was having a couple of problems with the system booting on the above overclock, but it now seems to be stable at 3.1 on pretty much stock volts (1.33v) Was still ok after 14hours of SP2004 last night and temps never went above 60c!! So i think this is much better than before, we will see if its stable tonight still when i get home!

Ricky.
