Am about to try my first overclock and as far as I can gather I just need to slowly increase the FSB and then check for stability whilst maintaining the RAM speed at stock at below by adjusting the divider.
My spec – 2Gb GeIL ultra low latency PC6400 800 MHz RAM
Asus P5N32-E SLi 680i mobo
E6600 CPU
NVidia 8800GTX GPU
Start position:
Ram divider 3:2
266 x 3 = 798 / 2 = 399 - So essentially FSB at 2,400 and RAM at 400 – so stock.
I was going to leave the ram and FSB linked but change to 5:4 and then slowly increase the FSB up to the following:
334 x 5 = 1,670 / 4 = 418 – So essentially FSB at 3,015 and RAM at 418
Would this be feasible? Will I need to up any voltages to achieve this ?
Should I not link the RAM to the FSB ? If I don’t, how do I set the RAM etc?
I’m not bothered about overclocking the RAM so ideally would want 3Ghz FSB and 400 RAM.
What other settings need altering? People mention turning things on and off and that’s when I get confused!
Thanks!
Nic
