I finally tried to overclock and obviously have missed something because it boots at 3gig but not at 3.2 and I got a scary windows start screen with red markings that made me think I had damaged something see image attached
startscreenwithredmarks.jpg

my specs
Asus p6TD deluxe v2
i7 920, D0
H50-1 with 2 Noctua NF-P12 120mm fans
Ram TR3X6G1600C8D -6GB Corsair Dominator DDR3, PC3-12800 (1600)

changes I made ...

qpi/dram from auto to 1.25
dram bus voltage to 1.64
ai overclock tuner to manual
dram freq from auto to 1600mhz
cpu ratio from auto to 21
cpu spred spectrum from auto to disable
started and all ok.....no overclock

-----------------
first overclock
qpi/dram from 1.25 to 1.3
cpu voltage from auto to 1.3
bclk from 133 to 143 = 3 ghz
started and all ok at 3 ghz ran prime95 for 1/2 hour and temps never went above 60degs

then changed the bclk from 143 to 153 wont boot
so changed the cpu voltage to auto got the image of windows log in with red stripes

changed the bclk from 153 to 143 and booted ok

I guess I missed something but can anyone give me a clue

Thanks in advance

Memory multiplier to 10.
Timings as your sticks are rated.
Turn off Turbo but leave Speedstep and C-states on.
CPU multiplier to 20.
Mem. voltage - 1.64/1.65
Qpi - 1.3V
V-core - 1.3V
Bclk - 160

Boot, run 20 loops of IntelBurnTest @ very high stress mode and report back. If it's stable, change memory multiplier to 8 (or anything that gives you lower mem. frequency than 1600MHz) and up bclk to 170. Do 10 runs of IBT at very high, if stable, save in bios (or on paper), up the bclk by 5MHz, do testing, etc. When you find any instability post on the forums.

Thanks Krugga

I did as you suggested and it past IBT ok to 4 gig but failed when I ran pime95 for a few hours, it locked up the mouse and keyboard with the desktop still open and was just rapidly beeping temps maxed out at 75 degs

no doing a longer prime95 test at 3.8 gig as that too past the IBT ok
