Hi guys, i'm a noob overclocker and looking at a good place to start. I have read the sticky and it seems to make sense. But I have had a look in the bios and I dont really have a clue as to what settings I should be changing (i dont know what all the abbreviations mean/do). Is there anywhere I can find a specific guide for my RAM/Mobo? (Geil 2GB PC6400 800MHz DDR2/Asus P5N-E SLi nforce 650)

Thanks for any advice.

(And is there any definitive 'best' temp monitoring program? I have TAT, Asus probe, everest, speedfan and coretemp but all give slightly different readings)

Check out the P5N-E SLi thread in motherboards for overclocking tips. Search on the word 'recipe' in that thread and you should find a few possibilities.

I'm very surprised you've got TAT running on the P5N-E SLi - which version is it?

Basically, TAT is the definitive Intel program, CoreTemp is the third-party copy. Both give accurate readings for the core temperature.

Sorry I was telling a bit of a porky pie, I had downloaded it and was about to run it as I wrote that message, and it didn't actually work, sorry :o! The others are all still slightly different though. But thanks for the advice about the thread.

I've also just posted this in the General Hardware section but it's slipping down and guess it may be better suited to this forum if any of you know whats going on? Thanks very much.

I've just put my new pc together last night and I ran Orthos to check all was working, it was fine for 15mins then I left and came back 5 mins later to find a siren goin off! It was from the asus probe software that came with my motherboard warning of a Vcore Voltage error (cant remember the exact message). I caught a glimpse of it and it was at 1.31V according to the asus probe. I just rebooted and checked the bios settings and it is set at 1.34V, it is currently measured at 1.34 by asus probe and 1.36 from speedfan. I dont know what the reading was when it started the warning but I'm quite worried. Is this down to my PSU, should I be worried about it? All the other voltages have been spot on for the past few months but this is a new c2d where it used to have an amd 4000+. Spec in sig, cheers.

*edit: sorry forgot to mention my PSU is a OCZ 450W Modstream
