My first steps in overclocking this week. Need some help.

My system setup is
Antec Solo Case
P35 DS3P MB
C2D 6320 Processor
Ninja Scythe Rev B Cpu Cooler
4 Gig Crucial Ballistix 5300 Memory
Innov3d 8600GT Graphics card

What software do I need to monitor
system/MB/CPU temps?
Fan Speeds?
Stability?
Anything else?

Which should I increase first, memory timings or CPU FSB on stock volts?

CPU temps, you're best off using Intel TAT (google it), for system temps/voltages, personally I use Lavalys Everest, or whatever software came with your motherboard. SpeedFan will control your fans fine. Use ORTHOS for stability testing :)

I'd adjust your FSB (so clocking RAM and CPU) before messing with timings/voltages :)

To use Speed Fan, do i need to have fans with a speed sensing wire on them i.e a 4th wire as opposed to 3

Shouldn't do no, so long as your BIOS supports controlling the speed of the fans, then normal 3-pin headders should be ok to be controlled.

So is it better to use software control i.e speed fan
or to buy a fan controller that you wire the fans up to , and can adjust speeds via knobs on the controller?

Personally I'd use software if it was available and worked ok, but then I hate extra "stuff" in my PC that doesn't need to be there.

Fan controllers are ugly :(
