Read the sticky but I'm still unsure

I just built my first PC

it has an i7 920 and a v8 cooler running at 30-31 degrees idle, I would like to overclock it!

But i'm not after waking it up as far as it can go. I hear a lot of people get 3.6ghz easy and some get 4.0ghz. So I was thinking an easy overclock to 3.2 - 3.4Ghz if someone could give me a guide? :D

Just something i can do in 5 mins or so.

What I got from the sticky was confusing, I saw a youtube vid on it and it was 10 mins long, and he was changing so much shiz in the BIOS compared to the sticky here it looks far too complicated, and thus the sticky looks far too simple.

Could someone just fil in 3 easy steps to do, then I'll run the prime95 test and see if its all kosherl.

Thanks :)

well the guide told me to test the cpu max heat, so i ran prime95

and it went instant upto 65 degrees, and since this is my first time i got scared and shut it off and it went straight back down, this is according to speedfan (doesn't seem right since it jumped 40 degres quickly and cooled itself 40 degrees even quicker)

bad move? 65 sounds high right?

The dude on the guide though ran a full load test with another program and he says

'If your heat sink right
now is above 70°C, don’t try any
overclock, as the heat sink you have is
not sufficient enough.'

His full load test:

'In the Hardware Monitor of EASY TUNE
6, the processor temperature shows
38°C. This is quite low, meaning the CPU
heat sink performs well, and will be able
to keep the CPU cool enough during a
4GHz overclock.'

He's using an i7 920 aswell, I thought the v8 cooler was good but his temp is 30 degrees cooler? :/

That's what I'm getting

can someone explain why this dudes cpu was 30 degrees cooler, is mine abnormal being that high with a v8?

btw this was using large FFT (whatever that is)

I just chcked my BIOS cpu temp and that says 40 degrees C

Isn't that a bit hot? It's 10 degrres more than speedfan just sitting in the BIOS

Might I have my v8 on wrong?

Please someone help :(
