Hey guys.

Now I know there's a sticky at the top of the forum but it's a few years old and it's for an old CPU which involves changing the multi, but on my 3200+ Venice the multi is locked. :(

I've let Prime95 and Memtest run overnight with no errors. :)

So could anyone let me know what steps I should take to do it please? I don't want to mess anything up. :o

Spec:

ABit AV8 3rd Eye
AMD Venice 3200+
GeIL 1GB Dual Channel value
nVidia GeForce 6800LE

Cheers. :)

well basicaly the simple steps are to up the HHT in steps of 10 and test it each time up that. If it fails up the voltage on the CPU by the smallest step, then test again and move up the HHT again if possible. Then keep in mind the RAM and use dividers to step down the RAM speeds if unstable.

THATS THE SIMPLEST FORM POSSIBLE.

DETAILS.

First you want to find the highest clock you CPU will go.
So you will need to lower the HT (bus speed) multi to something like x3 or x4. Then put the RAM on the slack timings so they will not be a factor in the CPU clock.

Then start upping the HHT in steps of 10 and testing ect...use dividers on the RAM where needed, also up the CPU voltage if needed. (keeping an eye on the temps)

Once you have found how high your CPU clock will go you can bring the RAM factor back in. Tighting timings down and giving the RAM extra voltage (be careful) and using dividers to fine tune this proccess until it becomes stable.

Might happen that you can get a really high speed on the RAM but the CPU wont take the clock speed. If this happens lower the CPU multi down, this maybe just be a lock on the motherboard and an option may unlock this, all CPU's a multi unlocked down.

So once the multi is lowered you can up the HHT to increase the RAM speed, but the CPU will run at a lower speed so will be stable.

SO IN ALL After doing the above just work out the best HHT:RAM ratio, but try to get the best CPU overall clock in the end.

Hope what I said above is understandable.

Right, I've just looked in my BIOS and found out that I can change my multi after all! :o

I'll make up a new thread with pictures of my BIOS so you can actually see what I'm talking about! :o

I got him to take pics etc etc of it all cos he was making me uber confused on tut phone. At the weekned i got it to what Sid, 2.25ghz..but then she died...bloody AMD 64 stuff. i don;t like the layout of the bios i must say.

Oh and a si said ask about you bios, maybe finding out whats the best update to get

2.25Ghz that all yuo got out of it.

Hmmmm bet it was the bus speed gives in over 1000, bet you didnt change the HTx did ya :p

Iv only ever seen A64 bios's so i dont know no difference.

Screens will help with this problem.

I got my mate to overclock over MSN, just made my self a spread sheet on excel and bashed in the numbers and it did the calculations for me.

EG, cpu clock, ram dividers ect. Try it, helps me sometimes. Plus saves paper:p

I've asked for this thread to be deleted so I can start again without confusing anyone. (Most probably me, haha)

I'll make a new one tomorrow if I have time.

I found out that I can actually change my multi.

i have the same mobo and ram. i would use ram divider, at the moment you use DDR400. drop that to DDR333 (166mhz) that should bring mem down to 170mhz from 204mhz(stock). give you more head room to overclock your 3200+
