Hi Guys,

As the title suggests, I've been out the PC game for quite some time, but the call of playing Counter Strike / TF2 and some retro strategy games is too strong so I've decided to take the plunge again.

Also, I've taken up streaming to entertain myself evenings and weekends and really enjoying it so it's another reason to move from PS4 only to PC again.

The plan is to build a PC that is capable of the following:

- Streaming using , PS4 Input (Using Elgato 60HD - Already purchased) , WebCam , Microphone , Chat all via. OBS.
- Streaming FPS running on the PC , Webcam , Microphone and Chat via. OBS
- Playing FPS at a good rate.

As it stands I've chosen the following setup , a little on the high side price wise but after debating Haswell 6 Core v Skylake 4 Core I went skylake to future proof.

Any thoughts on the setup? Been out the game so long I'm not familiar with if there are efficiencies to make in the setup, for example DDR4 RAM at 3000MHZ ,is the performance worth the cost? etc.

Would love your thoughts.

CPU : Intel i7 6700K (Skylake 4 Core)
CPU Cooler : Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo
MoBo : Asus Maximus VIII Formula
RAM : Corsair Vengeance LED 32GB (4 x 8GB) DDR4 3000MHZ
HDD#1 (OS) : Crucial MX200 500GB 2.5"
HDD#2 (Storage) : Western Digital Velociraptor 1TB 10000RPM
Video : MSI GeForce GTX 1070 8GB Founders
PSU : EVGA SuperNova P2 850W

Also want to add some cooling to it at some point as well.

I'd go for 2x16gb sticks.

For storage I'd get a wd red in whatever size you need as not sure you can even buy Velociraptors these days.

HDD 1 would be a Samsung EVO or Pro.

I've just done a new build myself after 4 years out and like you opted for the Asus Maximus VIII Formula but that was faulty so sent it back and went for the Gigabyte Z170 and happy with that.

Thanks Delux, have you heard any whispers that the Maximus has a lot of faults or do you think you were unlucky?

So I've bought a Corsair 750 Airflow Case, a Maximums VIII Formula MOBO and now supplemented it with this OCUK order.

Hey Guys,

So I've just completed phase 1 of my build and I'm a bit perplexed.

I've managed to get it all installed and working, however, when I install my RAM in the approved slots "A2 and B2" I get a Q Code 55. When I install each stick individually they work, when I install them in A1 and A2 they work.

I've not tried B1 / B2 solo as yet, but what issue could there be for the board not running in that config? The CPU didn't appear to have any bent pins but I'm no expert.

Not sure wether its worth RMA'ing some parts over if its all running fine in A1/A2.

I'd check the B1 and B2 slots to see if they work. Not familiar with the board, but if A2 and B2 are what it takes to use the RAM to its full potential then I would RMA if it doesn't work.

I will check them shortly, also noticed that the RAM whilst using XMP still shows in the ASUS Suite as running at 2133 despite the profile being 2633.

Update:

Just checked both sticks independently in ports B1 and B2, neither work giving an Error 55 (Q Code) or a 65/69 alternating error.

Is there anything I could have done in setup that would cause this? Eg. insufficient board voltage for RAM etc, or does this seem like a fault I will have to RMA? Alternatively, is there any way to isolate if this is a CPU issue instead?

I want to explorer all options before sending it back. Appreciate any advice , apologies for all the questions its been a while!

If code 55 is RAM not installed, then it sounds like you've got bad slots. It could be a CPU issue, but I would think it's more likely to be a board fault unfortunately.

If the RAM works fine in the other slots, I'd rule out the RAM being faulty.
