First pc build help and advice

Hi All
I'm planning on building my first PC and I would like some opinions on my parts list please. I'm a software developer but I know very little to nothing about the hardware and workings of a computer and this is one of the reasons I've been looking at building my own. My max budget is around £800 but closer to £600 the happier my misses will be. The PC will initially be used for general use, application development and as a media server using Plex but the long term plan is to get into PC gaming, I know I will need a graphics card for this but I plan to add one at a later date to keep the initial cost down.

I've gone down the non over clocking route as it's my first build but I'm open to the idea if you guys think it's a good idea

Anyway here's my parts list and advice/things you would change/pearls of wisdom will be greatly appreciated.

Intel i5 4590
Arctic cooling freezer 7 v2
Asrock z97 extreme 4
Corsair vengeance 8gb DDR3 1600
Samsung 840 evo 250gb
Fractal Design R4 with window
Corsair csm 650w
LG UH12NS30 Blu-Ray Reader, DVD/CD Writer
Fractal Design FD-FAN-SSR2-140 66.0 CFM 140mm Fan

I already have a hdd and OS so I haven't included them

Thanks in advance
Tom

Welcome :)

I think you had better remove that ************ link firstly, as competitor retailer/e-tailer links aren't allowed here :(

No problem :)

What's your maximum budget?

EDIT: Sorry, missed it in your original post

I think with your long term plan, you can slot a graphics card in later down the line? If so, that above spec would be what I'd go with. If not, here's a spec including a GPU

Only thing changed is the cooler for the CPU

Regarding your application development, is this RAM heavy? It may well be worth going for 16gigs of fast RAM

So you would go with an over clocking bundle even though I have no experience? I'm not doubting your advice I just don't know how difficult it is to over clock a CPU. Yes I'm planning on buying a gpu later so I want a build that I can just slot one into. Well my job mainly consists of data manipulation so whilst it does use ram it doesn't require a lot but I'm going to uni soon and the home projects could be anything so I need to leave my options open.
Thanks for your advice

No problem
I would definitely go for an overclocking bundle, it's very easy to overclock, even I can do it! Higher resale value also, you don't necessarily have to overclock but it is truly very easy.

I think the first spec would do nicely in that case, slotting a GPU in is very easy. As for the RAM, if you find it's not enough you could always add another 2 DIMMS to up yourself to 16GB :)

Well I was thinking of spending the extra to get the 4690k over the 4590 not just for the initial benefits but also because I could over clock if I want to, it's better to spend an extra £20 now than to decide I've made the wrong decision and have to spend. £160 on a brand new CPU. And again with the ram I thought if I bought 2 x 4gb it would be very easy to double up.
Thanks a lot for the advice you've settled a lot of internal arguments for me

You hit the nail on the head with that first point

IF you can afford it, honestly go for it. Try and find out about the RAM usage though, may well be worth going for a decent 16GB (2x8GB) kit now rather than worrying in the near future
