Hi all,

Am a total noob and gonna be attempting my first build soon. So what do you think of the below specs. It will be used mainly for gaming, surfing the net and listening to music. I would also like to be able to overclock the system to some degree. I will be using a 22" monitor as well. Anywayz here are the specs:-

Asus Striker extreme
Q6600 with Arctic Cooling freezer pro cooler
Crucial Ballistix 2GB (2x1GB) DDR2 PC2-6400C4 800MHz Dual
BFG NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTX OC
Samsung SpinPoint HD501LJ 500GB
Thermaltake W0106 Toughpower 700W Modular PSU
Antec Nine Hundred Case.

Any help will be much appreciated.

Thanks

What features do you need on the mobo?

I went with the Gigabyte P35_DS3R and can't fault it. (Well maybe can fault the flimsy looking plasticy clips used to hold the North Bridge HS in place). But other than that, I've not had any issues at all with it.

It really all depends what features you need from the mobo - you can spend a fortune on a high spec mobo, but if you aren't ever going to use half the features, then it's a total waste of money. Like Huddy says, there's not much between them in terms of performance - you're just paying for features.

Dont need many features tbh mate. Probably end up going with the Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3P as you guys say there aint much between them in terms of performance. Seems pretty good value for money as well.

I'd go with the GA-P35-DS3P as well (over the GA-P35-DS3R) as it's about the same price but has several additional features. (The 35P actually has similar features to the Abit IP35 Pro costing £30ish more IIRC.)

If you're going to be spending that kind of money, I'd recommend dropping an extra 15-20 quid on a Tuniq Tower or something a bit chunkier than a AC7

Yeh that sounds a good idea. Dont really want to go down the water cooling road just yet. Read all the reviews which have been good and it aint much more expensive than the AC7.

Though about extra fans too?

Bump for this, you might want to add a couple of slow spinning 120mm fans to take full advantage of your case's cooling opportunities. Although that said I can't use the side fan on my Antec 900 because my heatsink blocks it.
