Hi everyone , i just built this pc for gaming
Windows 7 64bit
I7 2600k @3.4ghz
Gainward gtx 580 phantom 1.5gb
Asus p8p67 pro mobo
8gb corsair vengence 1600mhz
Ocz gamexstream 850w
1tb samsung spinpoint
Liteon dvd drive

My problem is the system runs fine ,when browsing the net and even when running furmark and prime 95 .Heres the problem,i can play gameson my hard drive no problem yet when i play a game that requires the disk to be in the dvd tray i launched the game and the system reboots itself ! This can happen before the title screen appears or it can take 10 mins .In the event viewer i get a critical error kernel 41 ? Any help with this would be great im new to pc gaming and not that up to speed with these problems.thanks in advance.

I cant understand how the motherboard could be faulty when steam games play fine and i can run furmark stability test without a problem? Om not saying your wrong by the way, also my mobo is the new 3.0 revision which fixed a flaw on the original model.

Look at your dvd drive properties, there is a dvd region tab that you need to set. If you are in the UK its region 2, but that should set itself when you pick your country. I'm not saying that this is the cause of the problem, but it could be attributing to the crash.

Get to the properties by right clicking 'My Computer' and selecting the 'Manage' option from the context menu. Now look for the device manager and find your dvd drive in the devices panel. Opening the properties from there should allow you to set the dvd region.

Let me know how you get on.

Try making sure that you have it plugged into a sata2 port and not a sata3. Also check the vendor website for your motherboard and get all the latest drivers for your chipset. You'd be suprised how many crashes/BSOD's that can be fixed by doing just that.

Ok i was originally using the sata 6 slots but i changed yesterday to the 3gb slots and i have installed all updates from the asus website.I also uninstalled the marvel storage driver and disabled it in the bios ? . Thanks for taking the time to help.

Just remebered something , probably nothing but the person who built my pc told me to get an ide optical drive so i did, yet when iwas poking around in the case yesterday i noticed the the cables attached to the optical drive are sata( ithink) ?

Is there a bios update for your motherboard? Might be worth trying that too in case it fixes any storage controller problems.

SATA is a thin width cable (about 1cm) whereas the old IDE style are a large 40 pin ribbon cable.

As far as what type of optical drive to get, sata is the standard now, try to avoid old tech. I've got 2 SATA DVD drives in my current rig and they are fine.

Im on the latest bios 1505 pretty sure the two cables in my optical drive are sata and not ide ? Saying that the computer recognizes the drive and i can install games fine just when i launched a game the computer reboots sometimes instantly sometimes over 10 mins.
