Besides Dark Messiah what else is available in the FPRPG genre, SP and MP? First step into the idea of an RPG so ideas would be cool. Oblivion maybe?

Thank's in advance.

if you've never really played an rpg before, id go for deus ex if you've never played it, then move onto the more confusing rpg's (detailed stats etc) like oblivion.

deus ex is easy to get to grips with while oblivion might feel a bit daunting if its your first proper rpg experience, plus the story in deus ex is amazing

Another vote for Deus ex [That’s 5 in 9 replies] don’t let the out of date graphics put you off. It is by far the best of its genre and one of the best games of all time. I have just recently finished playing it through for the 10+’th time.

Vampire The Masquerade: Bloodlines? 3rd person also though for melee...

Yup I think it's actually getting me back into RPGs! Something Oblivion failed to do but hopefully I'll come back to it.

Oblivion has to be experienced by All gamers.
I am not one for RPG but got this second hand the other day, it's graphically amazing and a joy to play through.
many a time i have just stood mouth open looking out at the landscapes.
Excellent game so far.

Agreed, Deus Ex was a great game.

If you class Deus Ex as RPG, surely you'd class HL2 as the same, no?

No, as Deus Ex contains active levelling in the shape of finding upgrade pods and being able to upgrade certain aspects of your abilities, such as jump ability, hacking ability, sight etc, outside of weapons.

Deus Ex is an action fps rpg, Half Life 2 is a straight up FPS.

Its one of those games thats perpetually at the end of my list of must go back and actually finish games.

Same here, never completed Deus Ex yet, got to Area 51 before, every now and again i keep putting it back on, but i never get around to finishing it, i will do some day though, its an absolutely cracking game.

Deus Ex would be a good introduction since while it carries some RPG traits (item acquisition, character development, dialogue choices, multiple quests/routes, differring outcomes) it looks and feels like a fairly standard FPS most of the time. The RPG-elements are not overbearing, it's not like some games where you are swamped with options and stats, never quite sure what to do.

System Shock 2 is in a similar style, but is a bit harder to get into, the interface isn't as slick and in general Deus Ex is miles ahead in my eyes.

In fact one could argue that despite being over 6 years old, DX is yet to be bettered in terms of FPS-RPG hybrids.
