First playthough of HL2

Hi guys, gonna start my first playthough of the Half Life 2 games soon (been gaming on PC for few years but have never bothered playing HL2 :eek:

)

But was wondering is it worth playing them in vanilla form or modding them with Cinematic Mod?, would using the mod change it to much?

Stick with vanilla imo. I think it still looks pretty damn good considering the improvements in tech.

Amazing faces which were only best by LA Noire imo.

The game is fine, EP1 and EP2 are polished up just enough to make a difference and HL2 still looks awesome, besides you play these games for the story and game play, that's the real hook on these.

Half Life 2 is aging fairly well, crank up the res and apply max everything and loads of AA etc and it'll still look fairly decent.

Excellent game, remember my first playthrough.. About due another run through myself lol as said you're really playing this for the story and hopefully it'll grip you enough to not notice its now quite old - but honestly its fine to play it as intended to be seen

The Cinematic Mod is great, but the game deserves a vanilla play through if it's your first time. It's still one of the best games ever made.

As others have said, 1st playthrough should be original and then put the latest CM on there.

I plaed at the beginning of this year for the first time, great game and you'll love it! Few scary parts, but play vanilla deffo.

Never really got that much into Half Life myself but fancy giving it a run through. Did play the first one quite some time ago now

Best to do Half Life 1 first, then 2 and the following episodes?

Haven't tried Cinematic mod yet, but can't you still use the original models? Yeah, those new ones are horrendous :eek:

Wish for HL3....

Half Life 2 cinemod is really nice for the extra eye candy it gives provided you don't apply the mod to alyx as she most certainly looks like some teenage boys wet dream afterwards, which is a shame..
