First playthough of HL2

What about Blue Shift and Opposing Forces? :(

I didn’t consider them as you 'don't' have to play them to fully understand the story... I always see them as expanded and going from HL1 - HL2 is enough to fully understand what is going on.

Sure you can play blue shift and opposing forces, but they aren't essential IMO.

Which HL1 is the best bet, original or Source? Presume no mods for either of them?

Far as I'm aware, HL1 source is a direct port to Valves new source engine, but nothing more then this? I think it might have added a few little extras but nothing much.. Dynamic light, physics engine but game still looks the same as the first HL1

If you have't played HL1, then just pick up HL1 source... Excellent game, despite how old it is now.. Its all about gameplay, HL1 has this is bucket loads.

Well i own both of them, i have the Valve Complete Pack. Just need to decide which one to install (first world problems) :D

I still haven't played Lost Coast :o

I had a shot of the first few levels of Half Life again a few weeks ago, doesn't look that bad!! "Now Gordon..."

 It always amazes me how many people haven't played this! One of the few games I have completed multiple times, and have thoroughly enjoyed everytime! Don't mod this masterpiece :)

A definate plus 1 for playing as standard if it's your first time. Cinematic mod is nice, but as above, ruined by the fact you can't help but picture the creator fapping away whilst modelling new-Alyx's naked breasts and nipples even though they're behind clothes and adding the wobblyness feature. I only noticed this by accident when she was sitting beside Gordon in that buggy thing and I looked to the right - honest :). I seem to remember an older version of CM having a decent looking updated original Valve-Alyx model rather than this model/slapper or whoever the new-Alyx is based on, but not sure if that's still an option.

Anyway, I digress - play vanilla and enjoy!

Just to buck the trend, I'd suggest playing with the cinematic mod if you have the hardware to handle it. The cinematic mod is reasonably faithful in that it won't detract from the core of the game.

I really need to play though HL2 and the episodes again. Fantastic games, I just wish I could forget I'd ever played them because the sense of atmosphere was immense at the time, especially on the canal sections as the light slowly faded while you progressed.

Wish i could play this game but after 5 mins I feel sick and head starts spinning due to motion sickenes. Worst game that I have come across for this :(>

It should be mentioned that HL2 has had some pretty major graphical overhauls since it's release, mainly the addition of HDR lighting, dynamic shadows, higher res textures, better quality character models, etc. If you compared it to how it looked on release, theres a fair bit of difference. It looks more in line with EP1&2 now.

Started playing it other night, and was good for the 30 minutes or so I played, would have played more but my PC seems riddled with problems lately :(
