Hi peeps - im new to this forum so please be gentle.

I have finally decided enough is enough with my socket 478, AGP system and to build a new one. I dont want to spend loads as i would rather wait till the Nehalems are more popular etc..

However, can somebody please advise if this rig would be suitable for the next year or 2 (maybe 3)? Any advise is extremely welcome! :

I would go fort he bit extra and get that if i was in your position, maybe even get a Q6600 instead

Welcome to the forum! I would get a 4870 for the GPU tho especially as you are thinking of an intel chipset. Also get 2x2gb of RAM instead of 4x1gb

Edit - Too slow

ok, ill go for the q6600 and the 4870 - i did consider them at first, so i know what i want now! X38 board instead of the P45 then?

All depends if you want dual graphics cards or not, if it could be an option then go X38. If not then save the 50 quid with the P45 and buy a better mouse or summit!

personally i'd only get a single graphics card, seems a lot of money for little extra performance (and opens the door to a lot of problems) to have two or more cards

what is the main use of the pc ? also look in to the board you get carefully as some boards 6600's don't clock so great on.

main use is for Flight Sim-x, and i might try Crysis as i havent played it yet.
Reading your very helpful posts chaps, heres what i have come up with :
