Hello hello, I am upgrading my pc in the next couple of weeks and have been looking at this...

AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 5600+ 2.80GHz (Socket AM2) - Retail

Abit KN9 nForce Ultra (Socket AM2) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard

OcUK GeForce 8800 GTS 320MB GDDR3 HDTV/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail

Crucial Ballistix 2GB (2x1GB) DDR2 PC2-6400C4 800MHz Dual Channel Kit (BL2KIT12864AA804)

Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 320GB ST3320620AS SATA-II 16MB Cache - OEM

Microsoft Windows Vista Ultimate 64-Bit Edition DVD - OEM - 1Pk (66R-00838)

I am wondering about future upgrades with this motherboard/ram, Ideally I dont want to have to replace as much as I do this time, next time... if you see what I mean.

Will AMD's next model be supported by this board?

Anyone with a similar set up have any problems with Vista 64?

Thanks.

Personally mate i would go for core2duo, out-performing anything AMD can throw at it at the minute, especially if you are willing to have a go at overclocking, i think every c2d cpu can hit 3ghz pretty easily

He gives good advice, core 2 duo's are just better value for money atm, and especially when overclocked, the lowest end core 2 duo ''conroe'' (6xxx series) when overclocked completly destroys the highest end amd (even when also overclocked...).

Would be a waste of your money tbh to go amd, with a core 2 duo you would get more speed with less money, offcourse this counts when overclocked, and I really recommend overclocking these days, its easy and will save you $$$., kept for the mobo & cpu: It's a spot on spec...

c2d is the best option now, cpu prices are cheap now and some of the best ddr2 memory kits have dropped to a very comppetive price for example team extreem pc6400 c4 was 176, quid now about 125 or so inc delivery gotta say oc uk has the best prices when it comes to buying new parts, postage is a bit more expensive but its worth it (had bad experiences with other online shops which promise to deliver the latest kit) and dont live up to their hype

Honestly, C2D is the only way to go. It would be unwise to go AMD at that price/etc point, unless its a seriously budget build (see here).

Regarding Vista, it depends on what you'll be using the machine for. A simple search on this forums will reveal that Vista still has some growing up to do :(

I built a system like this a long time ago and regretted it ever since I found out what core 2 duos could do. I had a similar situation to you. I built a new core 2 duo system for £150 less than i paid for mine from the advice on here and it outperforms it by far.

Core 2 duo is the way to go for now.
