So I have finally decided to take the plunge and build my own PC! Have done my research regarding which brands are better.etc but would still really appreciate OCUK's expert forummers ;) advice on the following build:

Intel Core 2 Duo E8500 LGA775 'Wolfdale' 3.16GHz (1333FSB) - Retail (£155.24)
Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro CPU Cooler (Socket LGA775) (£18.39)
BFG GeForce 9800 GT OC 512MB GDDR3 TV-Out/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail (£126.49)
Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3P Intel P45 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard (£120.74)
OCZ 4GB (2x2GB) PC2-8500C5 1066MHz Reaper HPC Edition Dual Channel DDR2 (OCZ2RPR10664GK) (£86.24)
Samsung SpinPoint F1 1TB SATA-II 32MB Cache - OEM (HD103UJ) (£77.04)
Antec 300 Three Hundred Ultimate Gaming Case - Black (No PSU) (£49.44)
Corsair TX 650W ATX2.2 SLi Compliant PSU (£73.59)

Total : £719.80

Will definitely be overclocking the above CPU.. Is the power supply sufficient? Will this MOBO be up to the task?

Also not too sure about the graphics card - would like to play some high-end games i.e COD5 but not sure if investing in a Radeon HD 4870 would be worthwhile? How would COD5.etc run with the above card? Also will be installing Windows Server 2008 on this build. Will there be compatibility issues? I have heard with a few tweaks here and there Win. Ser. 2008 is more reliable than Vista.

Sorry for the long winded post! :p
Thanks in advance :)

1. get E8400 since you OC Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 LGA775 'Wolfdale' 3.00GHz (1333FSB) - Retail

2. good mobo

3. RAM: check gigabyte website for mem compatibility, but i think the cheapest 4gb of PC2-8500 Ram will do , they all have lifetime warranties

4. PSU is fine, can also get a corsair HX520 is enough and modular for nice cable management : calculator to estimate PSU requirement http://www.extreme.outervision.com/psucalculatorlite.jsp

5. change gfx card for Powercolor ATI Radeon HD 4870 512MB GDDR5 TV-Out/Dual DVI/HDMI (PCI-Express) - Retail

6. not sure about your OS and compatibility, I use vista 64 and no problems and recognizes all the ram i need

Thanks for the recommendations - the PSU calculator has been of great help. Will be swapping the PSU now for the 520W.

Never heard that TBH. I know there's problems been problems with OCZ and ASUS boards. I've used OCZ in many gigabyte mobo's with no problems at all - P965 DS3, P35 DS3P, X38 DS5 and even an NV chipsetted GA-73PVM-S2H with no issues.

Thanks for your advice :)

I'd swap the motherboard for an Asus P5Q Pro and use the money saved on a 9800GTX+.

The 620W is modular, meaning the cables are much more tidy thus improving airflow and it looks much better.

Gonna be naughty and increase the initial budget a little bit and get a ATI HD4870 GPU! :D

However will the P5Q pro be better than the UD3P guys?

Im using it, its quicker then vista lol. No compatibility problems either, just install vista drivers as needed.

Really need windows 7 to be released :(

I'll be using the documentation in your sig to set up my Win. Ser. 2008!

Thanks :)

Will there be any application compatibility issues or is it basically that any program that runs on Vista will run on Win. Ser. 2008?
