Hi all,

I have been reading the ocuk forums for a few years now :D and finally made a new account.

I am going to build a new pc because my one is as old as time its self. I have picked out the parts just wondering if I could get some advice or maybe a better build suggested.

Budget doesn’t matter to much.
Thanks.

Is the 36Gb raptor for OS? I would consider a little bigger if you ever plan on running vista.

My C drive with vista 32bit, Office 07 and COD4 + a few other smaller apps is 36.3Gb already.

I would go for a 74Gb

The ram seems massive over kill, but as a whole the system will give you a massive e-peen! lol

P.S - like your name, claimed!

I personally wouldn't bother with DDR3 at the moment, not when 4GB of DDR2 comes in under £80 at the moment. I'd invest in couple of 8800GTs or buy a new 9' series when they come out.

imo the ddr3 is a waste of money even thou theres no budget, shouldnt throw money around even if you got it, nothing worst than paying a lot of money and then next week the prices drop dramatically, i would get 4 or 8 gig or DDR2, 150gig raptor, a BR or HD drive (if you use your pc for watching BR or HD Films) and like others said GT cards or wait for the 9 series :) but thats my preference, good luck with the build

The idea with the dual ATi card is that you wouldn't need a crossfire mobo for that, just the single PCI-E slot.

Saying that, most of the good P35 and X38 motherboards come with crossfire anyway.

Personally, I wouldn't go crossfire/sli. Too much hassle, just get the best card at the time.

what about replacing the mobo and cards and ram for.

x1 EVGA GeForce 8800 Ultra SuperClocked SILENT 768MB GDDR3 HDTV/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail (768-P2-E887-AR)

OCZ 4GB (2x2GB) PC2-8000C5 1000MHz ReaperX HPC Enhanced Bandwidth Edition Dual Channel DDR2 (OCZ2RPX10004GK)

Asus Striker II Formula nForce 780i (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard

Asus Maximus Formula
4 * 1 Gb GeIL ULL 800mhz RAM
+ Graphic card(s) (ATI Only is crossfireboard) of your choice

no need for anything better than that atm..

In 6 months you can upgrade to the New X48 boards and a nice yorkfield.. tbh going any higher spec atm is throwing your money away

Pneumonic has hit the nail on the head. I'd also suggest you get a single 8800 GT / 3870 XT and watch what new cards come out over the next couple of months.
