First router... can others see my files?

Really really stupid question but I have just set up my first router (Belkin Wireless G Plus). I have used it to connect my wee bro's laptop to my NTL 10Mbit internet connection as he was moaning to much What I was wondering was, would my wee bro be able to see any of my files on this comp via his laptop because I have heard that this can happen.

do you have a firewall running on your machine, if not and he had access to an admin account on your machine it can be possible via $ shares and the like (assuming xp pro)

Then he could just log onto his machine while he wasnt around
