First run... how far/long?

Started a diet within the last few days and it's going well. have lost a few lbs. I am 16st 7lbs but actually don't look it. I'm male, 22 and 5ft 11. everyone guesses that my weight is about 14stone, strange. I think I hold most of my fat/weight in my chest and want to lose it. So my question is, how long should I run/jog for. This will be my first real bout of exercise.
 
As long as you can. This first run is about establishing your fitness levels.

Just pace yourself, start real, real slow and see how far you can go. Also, read platys running sticky.

Pick a circular route of 2 to 3 miles and run it comfortably. If you can't sing/talk out loud to yourself you're running too fast. If you can do that comfortably then extend it next time. Don't be afraid to walk.
