First SLI Enable Problem

Guys,

So I've just installed a second GTX260 card, both BFG 260GTX MC55 OC. My nvidia control panel does show the option to enable SLI and it seems to be taking ages? Is this normal?

F.Y.I I hit the buttom at 22:45 and it's been saying 'Applying Changes' and nothing else 'seems' to be happening?

Any ideas or shared experience?

Regards,

Adam.

Sorry should have been more specific. Have Gigabyte X58 with the SLI stamp on and using the SLI bridge that came with it.
Have removed all drivers from the system with Driver Sweep and performed a fresh install of the 266.xx drivers from nvidia.

Have then gone into nvidia control panel... 'Set SLI & PhsyX Config', selected 'Maximise 3D Performance. Selected 'Auto Select' for PhsyX and hit apply.

How long should it take?

no no I meant I'm doing a fresh windows... fortunatly there isn't anything on the system as yet.
Both cards tested and working.

ah well, little off topic, but i gotta say it.
Nice worries you have m8, i have been so skint lately, have not bought any new hardware in ages, i miss all this setting up and nervous deep into the night new toys troubleshooting :D

LOL! I'm feeling the effects this morning. I got to 1:00am and seemed to develop the most simple problem of trying to install graphics drivers on a fresh install of windows and the screen just going black... Now I'm stuck again and I have eyes like **** holes in the snow!

Gigabyte again ;-)
I think it's not Windows issue. There must be something hardware-specific that blocks SLI being activated.
Well, did you put graphic card to correct slot ? Did you put SLI finger properly (without this it still works, but if finger is broken...) ? Do your PCIe slots are configured properly in BIOS ? And is your BIOS up-to-date ?
Normally, it takes about 6-7 secs at first time, even less later.

SLI bridge is brand new. Is there a wrong way to put a PCIe card in? BIOS up to date and what would I need to check in BIOS to make sure they are correctly configured?

Thanks,

Adam.

Sorry to see you're still having problems.

I suggest you try each card individually to ensure they work.

If both cards work individually, but not in SLI, then it's probably either motherboard or power supply problems.

What power supply are you using?

Corsair AX750... No problems! ;)

I know the monitor is in the right place.

I've been told that it should never take that long... I'll try it again now and leave it for 10 minutes of so but I'm sure it's not going to work...

This is becoming more and more frustrating.

+1 If I do anything other than move the mouse, the whole thing hangs and can only be fixed by restarting?!

Correct 266.58 drivers installed. Case is off and it's a 800D that is full of fans. Cooling and heat I'm sure are not the problem.
I'm slowly becoming of the opinion that something is wrong that I won't be able to fix...

FYI The 'Applying Changes' box has been in the same place for 15 minutes now...

Not sure if I can bothered with these old cards. Have been doing a bit of reading and the pre-order deal on the 5850 from Overclockers looks like a way to go,2 of them for 215 quid, crossfire, happy days?!

Next problem is the mobo was a package from OCUK. If I flash the BIOS I loose the warranty?
I'm in a right pickle here.

You may not lose the warranty on the motherboard but if it was an overclocked bundle then his is what OcUK say:

"If you update the BIOS we will no longer be able to provide support for configuring and maintaining the CPU overclock."

I have to play safe here.

how the hell can you lose your warrenty because of a bios update....if they didnt want you to have it they wouldnt put it on there site.....
if you have a ocuk overclock that you might lose its simple to overclock it again so no big deal there....if your feed up trying to get it to work then give up and close the thread otherwise try this or stop asking for advice on the matter

Ok cammy, a little harsh but finally SLI'd up. Took a chance on the 270 beta drivers, litterally worked straight away.
Sorry for being a pass in the preverbial. :(
