Hi there

I'd like to build my first PC for < £750. I need everything:
Case (Antec 300 looks good)
Fans (worth it?)
PSU
CPU
GFX card
Motherboard
RAM
HDD
Cables (DVI?)
Monitor
Mouse/keyboard
OS (Windows 7)

A few points:
- Mostly bothered about fast loading times and being able to have plenty of stuff on the go at once. I like the look of an SSD as I won't really need more than 320 GB storage - was thinking of an SSD for boot/applications
- Will do gaming but not immediately, would like a pretty good card but not the priority (worth getting an ATi and going to XFire early/mid next year?)
- Monitor can be 20"-24", I'd like a big one but quality over quantity :)
- Will also be doing plenty of office work, music listening, and browsing (not sure if sound card is necessary)
- I'd like 6 GB+ RAM :)

Any other questions please ask. ;)

Thanks!

Dont think youll need 6 gig of RAM, 4 is still plenty for most things, hows this look to you? the mobo will allow xfire and the psu is enough too as the 6850s are v low power draw

Would I be better off getting an Intel CPU and newest chipset motherboard possible, as I may not upgrade for a while? Spec looks good though, thanks. :)

Wait for sandy bridge.

Also, if you're not going to game (which I didn't see you mention in your OP, might've missed it) you won't need a GPU. Just get a sandy bridge and with certain boards it's got a HDMI port on it. Sandy has a basic GPU built into the chip...

Thanks for your input. :) Yes, in my OP I did (covertly) mention it. :p I'd like to game but I won't be doing it until sometime in February when I buy some games, so I was thinking of getting a card that I could XFire/SLi at some point in the future. Obviously it has to be pretty good now though, so I'm not wasting my money. :)

Whoops, a bit over but will come back tomorrow and try to shave some pounds off. I've heard good things about Intel/ATi hence the choices.

Feel free to add/change specs to get better value. :) I'd love an SSD but I guess that can be added in a few months' time.

Thanks! :D

if u dont plan to game until feburary, might be worth just using onboard gpu until then.

then u can save up soem extra money and upgrade to a proper gpu.
and its likly u'll get something better for the same money by then too

I5 650 = no...

If you're going to buy an I5 now, 760 Only.

Also the motherboard does not support the CPU specced, you will require the P55 chipset or the H55.

that spec is awful for the price
and wouldn't work together anyways.

i would go for the 460 over the 5770 as well

biggest face palm ive ever seen

I apologize, I didn't realize the Grand Master had graced the thread. ^^

Maybe his response was a little mean, but telling the OP to get a I5 650 CPU which is one socket, and then a motherboard which doesn't even fit it (1156 pins vs 1366 socket on the CPU).

If the dude had bought the stuff, imagine how disappointed he would've been.

Also, the 650 is far worse than the I5 760.

That guy is the op btw

Okay guys, so assuming I wanted a spec which was purely to do with speed and not gaming (so the GFX card could suffer), what could I get for my money? Just with the option to upgrade to SLi/Crossfire at a later date.

Thanks for the help so far, been great. :)
