Hi there! I have been lurking on the OC website and forums for a short while now, agonising over building a new system; I have never attempted a self-build before and am a tad nervous. I have recently been reading the excellent component choosing guide by 95thrifles and the equally awesome system build guide by greywolf in the General Hardware section and currently have a system drawn out which I have detailed below.

I am trying to work to a reasonable budget and have attempted to strike a reasonable balance between performance, cost, reliability, and upgrade potential (I would also possibly try to overclock the CPU). My intention is to play games like Bad Company 2 and APB (when it comes out) on this thing (there is no monitor or sound system as I already have those sorted) - £750 is my absolute maximum.

I was basically looking for any help or advice pertaining to whether there were any glaring errors or omissions in my selection of components, and also any advice on how well this system will age; I went for socket 1156 with DDR3 RAM for this thing in the hope it would last me a few years - also I have never had a PC with a decent graphics card so I was wondering if the PSU would stand up to me adding a second 5770 in CrossfireX or a 5800 series and also whether or not I would need another gfx card at all what with current advances in gaming graphics etc (for reference my monitor is 1680 x 1050).

Here are all the components (13 Items with a total cost of £757.53 inc. VAT and shipping)

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

You won't need the thermal compound as i'm pretty sure some comes with the CPU and cooler. However, if you want better heat transfer then you'd be better off buying a seperate one. You'll need to clean it off the bottom of the Cooler. :)

Thank you for all of your help - I have changed the HDD to the samsung f3, changed the mobo to the one suggested and got the extra fan whilst still being able to stick to my budget.

As for the processor, I'm gonna leave it as the i3 - I appreciate what you are saying billysielu, but the hike in price is too much for me atm.

OK I'm gonna do it now. Thanks again!

How about switching your ram for

OCZ Obsidian 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 Dual Channel (OCZ3OB1600LV4GK) £89.99

I think 1600mhz would be abit better for overclocking if im not mistaken.
