Hi Everyone

I usually just go down a competitor and buy a PC, but a guy I work with reckons I can get more value for money putting one together myself.

I have put together a shopping list - really is just the basics and at this stage am not looking at trying to overclock or anything. I am going to be using it to do some part time design work (i.e. photoshop, avid etc)

Here it is:

Intel Core 2 Quad Pro Q6700 "LGA775 Kentsfield" 2.66GHz (1066FSB) - OEM -
£149.49

Tagan PipeRock TG600-BZ 600w Modular BZ Series Power Supply - £101.19

Asus P5QL Pro Intel P43 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard - £75.89

Corsair XMS2 4GB DDR2 PC2-8500C5 TwinX (2x2GB) Dual Channel Kit (Twin2X4096-8500C5) - £39.99

Gainward ATI Radeon HD 4650 512MB DDR2 TV-Out/Dual DVI/HDMI (PCI-Express) - Retail (471846200-9702) - £57.49

Coolermaster Elite 330 Midi Tower Case - Black (No PSU) - £29.89

If someone could just have a look over it and let me know if it looks ok for the price?

Any recommendations about buying different items that would be better value for money would be appreciated. Also as this is a first time build I may have missed something glaringly obvious.

Thanks in advance guys

Flor

Looks good, although i'd personally change the case to a small Lian-Li and get a lower spec/price power supply, unless you plan on putting in some serious hardware in the future.

You'll also need a CPU cooler. Tuniq Tower, Thermaltake True, Sunbeam Core are all good decent coolers for around £30-£40. Also, i'd go with a P45 motherboard over a P43, unless you want to go the AMD route which offers a little more in the way of future upgrades.
