Hey guys, I was recommended here by a friend of mine. I've done a few upgrades on pre-built systems before in the past but never started from stratch.
I'm looking for an upgrade, I do some casual gaming so don't really need a huge overkill setup but my current pc is getting dated.

I have a HDD/bluray drive already hence them missing from below, apart from that am I missing anything? Mainly extra fans/better hardware for same price etc. Any huge incompatibility issues i've failed to notice? :D

I've taken a look at other threads and upgraded a few parts from recommendations from them.

AMD Piledriver FX-8 Eight Core 8350 Black Edition 4.00GHz (Socket AM3+) Processor - Retail
Asus HD 7850 DirectCU II V2 1024MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card
Asus Sabertooth 990FX AMD 990FX (Socket AM3+) DDR3 Motherboard
Silverstone Strider Plus 750W Modular '80 Plus Silver' Power Supply (ST75F-P)
Corsair Carbide 300R Mid Tower Windowed Case - Black
Corsair Vengeance RED 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-15000C9 1866MHz Dual Channel Kit (CMZ8GX3M2A1866C9R)

It all comes to £664.92 and i'd rather not go higher than that, if necessary I will go a little higher.

Last thing, I want this to be more future proof so may look into upping the RAM and adding a second graphics card at a later date, is the ASUS one good for that? :)

Thanks!

The DirectCU II graphics cards are some of the best custom cooled cards you can get, and yes it will work fine in SLI at a later date. From a pure performance perspective I would recommend going for an intel chipset and not AMD at the moment... something like an i5 3570k and gigabyte UD3H Z77 for instance (see links below). It wouldnt affect your total cost much but it would provide better gaming performance.

If you are not planning on overclocking then the stock heatsink that comes with the 3570k will be fine.

Do you need an operating system? I notice it is not part of your list

Ah thanks for reminding me! I have Windows 8 already and wondered if you had to get specific motherboards that have UEFI instead of BIOS, whether that would affect the price much?

Best going with Intel for the price, something like this would be great.

Just under £600. But no OS.

Thanks for the builds, i've always had AMD and have read some issues with the piledriver but decided to stick with them, does Intel really outperform them that much now :o

@Idleman, is the 400w PSU really all that is needed? Bearing in mind in the future adding a second gfx card?

Thanks! I'm amazed at how much you've all changed the build for the better in such a small amount of time, i've spent ages picking and choosing haha!

Last thing, you both gave me exactly the same builds except for the motherboard, i've done some research and apart from some really minor details, can't see why one is better than the other. So does one benefit over the other in anyway?

Once again, thanks for all the help :)

The Sniper is mATX and the D3H is ATX form factor, 2 different size boards.
There are a few other differences as you can see in the comparison. Just select a mobo that meets your requirements.
