I'm hoping to built my first pc but really need some advice from the experts, so that's why I've joined this forum. Below is a rough idea of what I would like (from my limited knowledge). Could someone please help me with any of my queries.

I would like to use the Antec 300, but am not sure if it is appropriate, as I would really like a quiet pc. So, would the Antec p182 be better for this purpose and my possible components?

I hope to learn how to overclock the processor to about 3.5ghz roughly speaking, so would the cooler for the cpu be adequate?

Could someone please suggest a good motherboard for the type of ram/GPU/Cpu I'm looking for (I'm not worried about SLI, but would like Quad core possibiities for the future if that's possible)?

Could somone also suggest a good PSU that is quiet and reliable and of the appropriate wattage (I've heard that some do not fit the P182)?

Any quiet fans and how many, assuming the stock ones on the Antec 300 or P182 would be insufficient?

And finally, Is my proposed system so far, too imbalanced?

Thanks very much in advance for any time you can give to the matter:

Looks good, but you would be better with the P182 if you're after quiet
A simple P43 chipset board would do you, look at the Gigabyte GA-EP43-DS3L
And PSU wise Id look at the Corsair range, the 650W is on this week only and is a bargain
N.B. Also modern mobo's come with pretty decnt onboard sound, if I were you I wouldnt bother with the sound card, you can always get it later if you decide the onboard isnt good enough (which I doubt)

Have a look at the BeQuite PSU's. I would go with a P182, I got one myself and it's very quiet.

What's your budget btw?

Firstly, thanks for all the help, really appreciated. I have a budget of just over £1000 (give or take a little, though the less the better obviously)

I'm hoping to learn how to overclock the cpu, maybe leaving at that to start with? Is it reasonably straightforward and safe to overclock it to that level?

P182 it is then. I looked at the P182 thread in the cases section and it seemed like a great case. Would the BeQuiet PSUs be ok for that case? Oh and what wattage would I need?

Thanks again

Oh, and thanks for the tip on the motherboard. In relation to the Corsair PSU. Is it the Corsair modular 650HX that seems to have a few issues rather than the Corsair TX? Or have I got that completely wrong? One last thing, do modular PSUs help a lot with cable management?

I noticed that the Antec P182 has rocketed to over £130! It sort of puts it out of your budget, so perhaps go with the 300 instead?

Cheers guys, all these options have been a real help. I think I will go for:

Is there an alternative to the P182, that makes for a quiet pc, has good cable managment facilities, reasonable room to work, fan filters and is reasonably priced (hopefully under £100)? Or am I searching for the Holy Grail?

If I did push the budget and purchase a P182, would the Zalamn be a good fit for the P182 as I've heard that not all PSUs fit comfortably in the case?

In addition, is the Antec 300 still a reasonably quiet PC with the components I'm using, have good cable management facilities and reasonable space to work in?

Thanks again.

http://www.akasa.com.tw/banners/flash_spec_page/banner-infiniti_zor.htm nice flash animation for the specs of my case, i got it for under £100. Has loads of room, 2 front fans with fan filters, a rear exhaust fan, space for extra fans, perspex side and blue leds! woo gota love leds. However OCUK have stopped stocking it :( if your willing to look around you can pick one up quite cheap. A note that the fans are silent and the only thing i hear on my case is my GTX 295 fan, ambiant temperatures inside the case are about 15c :)
