For the last week, I've been trying to get up to speed on computers for my first build. I would really appreciate it if anyone could take the time to point out any mistakes I may be making, and to answer a few dilemmas I have.

I have been given the offer to buy a second hand Silverstone Fortress FT01, which I think I will take, whilst I will use my old monitor and speakers until I replace them in a little while.

I am definitely going to purchase a AMD Phenom II X3 Tri Core 720 Black Edition 2.8GHz (Socket AM3) - Retail £120.74 inc VAT which I hope to learn how to overclock.

The dilemmas I have are as follows:

1) Which Motherboard should I go for out of these two, or should I go for a more expensive one?

MSI 790GX-G65 AMD 790GX (Socket AM3) PCI-Express DDR3 Motherboard

Gigabyte GA-MA790XT-UD4P (Socket AM3) PCI-Express DDR3 Motherboard

2) I'm not sure which DDR3 - Dual Channel memory to go for. I'm really looking for the best bang for buck, that won't damage performance elsewhere?

3) In terms of Hard Drives, I'm not sure which of these two to go for. I'm thinking maybe the Samsung as it seems to have more GB for the price?

Samsung SpinPoint F1 RAID 750GB SATA-II 32MB Cache - OEM (HE753LJ £65.54 inc VAT

Western Digital Caviar Black 640GB SATA-II 32MB Cache - OEM (WD6401AALS) was £64.99 inc VAT

4) As for Optical Drives, I'm thinking of the LG GH22NS40 22x DVD±RW SATA Dual Layer ReWriter (Black) - OEM £18.99 inc VAT

5) For Graphics Card, I'm leaning towards either a GTX 260 or GTX 275. I'm quite willing to go down the ATI route, it's just that I've heard that Nvidia tend to be less noisy, and that's very important to me.

Could someone please recommend one? I hope to overclock them if that's any help. In addition, does overclocking your Graphics Card invalidate your warranty, or is this only with certain brands?

6) Finally, would a Corsair HX 620W ATX Modular SLI Compliant Power Supply (CMPSU-620HXUK£108.99 inc VAT) have enough juice to run this lot in a reliable and quiet manner? I'm thinking modular to make things look neater and improve airflow.

I've heard great things about the Seasonic M12D 750w Quad GFX Enabled ATX Power Supply £159.99 inc VAT. I only considered this to possibly future-proof myself and perhaps get a top notch power supply. I'm guessing this may not be necessary though?

Many thanks for any help and sorry for the essay. :)

Thanks very much for for the welcome. Looks like I only need to find the graphics card now. In relation to this, are all of the 4890s loud or can I find any quiet ones? Same goes for the GTX 275s. Thanks.
