Hi everyone,
I could really do with some advice/help with choosing the right build for my first time!

I have a budget of about £600, I might be able to stretch this a bit. This will need to include a o/s was thinking of moving from win 7 to 8, I have a monitor that I can use in the short term but if it could include that aswell all the better.

It will be used as a general home computer, surfing the net and office stuff but my son is starting to get into gaming a lot more and our current pc isn't up to scratch as it only has shared graphics.

Can anyone help?

Thanks in advance.

A friend off forum recommended this for the APU, any thoughts?

AMD A10-6800K Black Edition 4.10GHz (Socket FM2) APU Richland Quad Core Processor (AD680KWOHLBOX)

Would this fit with the first build as a replacement APU? Would the MOBO need to be swapped?

YOUR BASKET
1 x AMD A10-5800K Black Edition 3.80GHz (Socket FM2) APU Trinity Quad Core Processor (AD580KWOHJBOX) £99.95
1 x AOC E2250SWDAK 21.5" Widescreen LED Monitor - Black £95.99
1 x Samsung 120GB SSD 840 EVO SATA 6Gb/s Basic - (MZ-7TE120BW) £79.99
1 x Microsoft Windows 8.1 64-Bit DVD - OEM (WN7-00614) £71.99
1 x Patriot Viper "Sapphire Blue" 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-14900C9 1866MHz Dual Channel Kit (PV38G186C9KBL) £65.99
1 x SuperFlower Golden Green HX 450W "80 Plus Gold" Power Supply - Black £53.99
1 x Seagate Barracuda 7200RPM 1TB SATA 6Gb/s 64MB Cache - OEM (ST1000DM003) HDD £43.99
1 x Asus A55BM-E AMD A55 Chipset (Socket FM2+) DDR3 Micro ATX Motherboard £37.99
1 x BitFenix Merc Beta Gaming Case - Black £32.99
1 x OcUK 20x DVD±RW SATA ReWriter (Black) - OEM £14.99
Total : £612.85 (includes shipping : £12.50).

That APU is just a new version of what Ted has recommended. It would be more expensive, and if the mobo was not compatible, it probably would be with a bios update. The difference between what was specced and the one recommended by your friend is not much.

Thank you very much for your advice.

Could I ask another question please, Will I be able to add a GPU at a later date if I want to improve the gaming capability for my son's use?

Cheers
