Hi all, I am planning my first ever PC build. My Current system is a 32 bit vista antique housed in a NZXT Zero full tower.
I don't have much of a budget (around £350 for the first stage) and plan on upgrading in stages and reusing some of my old components as stop-gaps until I save enough to completely replace all parts.
Below are the components I will be keeping for the time being:
NZXT Zero full tower case
Hiper Type M 580w PSU
Sony DVD RW
Samsung 500Gb hard drive
ASUS Nvidia GeForce GTX 650 Ti Gpu

Below are the first build components I am considering:

The second round of the upgrade will include a new GPU and SSD drive.
Now for some questions
Are the planned components the best bang for buck and are they a good platform to base future upgrades on?(New Gpu etc etc)
Will the old components I plan on keeping be compatible with the planned upgrade parts?
What is the best way to upgrade windows vista 32 bit to windows 7,8 or 10?
I mostly play TW games and MMO's but want to get into Elite Dangerous, will my planned upgrade allow me to play Elite Dangerous?
Cheers all

The upgrades are good bang for buck and will see you well for future upgrades. I personally would get the latest cpu and motherboard for about £15 more with ddr4.

My biggest concern is you power supply its very old and reading some reviews its not that good, so a decent psu i would get with first stage upgrade.

Are you hard drive and dvd writer sata ?

My basket at Overclockers UK:

Total: £340.47
(includes shipping: £10.50)

Cheers Mick for the feedback
My hard rive is a Samsung Spinpoint 500GB Hard Disk Drive 7200RPM 16MB SATA300
not sure about the DVD RW.
Have seen some good reviews on the components I linked, Will the ones you suggest outperform them?

Cheers Mick, I plan on upgrading the Gpu in the second stage, what PSU would you suggest to take into account the possible extra power needed by a new Gpu at a later date?

Depends on what gpu your gonna get but at least a good 500w unit , any ideas on what your gonna get ? Budget ?

If you are going to get that i5 6600K bundle with the memory for £340 then you should just buy the cooler master cpu cooler that you were looking at as well for the first stage :)

Was looking to spend around £170 on the card
A little bit worried about the
"GA-Z170XP-SLI INTEL Z170 (SOCKET 1151) DDR4 ATX MOTHERBOARD
Watched a video review and it said the board is not standard ATX but a little bit narrower and could have problems lining up with standard case fitting, anyone have experience with this?

Ok, Getting closer to a first and second stage build.
First stage has 2 options so far, need to find out a little more about possible fitting problems with the "GA-Z170XP-SLI Intel Z170.
Option 1:

Total: £371.06

Option 2:

Will the on-board sound be decent on this card? I have an old creative sound card on the system I'm using now but not sure if its worth fitting it.
Also, it will be my first time build, is it a good setup in terms of bios and overclocking ease of use? It will be my first time to dabble in overclocking and bios use and a little nervous lol

1. The onboard sound is good enough in my opinion
2. Maybe go into the overclocking section and ask that as I don't really overclock

Been away had a good think and decided to add a case to the build. This will give me lighting and water cooling options in the future.
Have given two GPU options as I'm still undecided which to choose.
Any suggestions as to further improvements without spending any more cash appreciated.
As you can see its a very Red orientated build, not my fave colour so if anyone could suggest a colour alternative keeping this spec that would be great :)
