Hi. So I only just noticed this having not really looked into it before, but there's a 'Full Version' of Windows 7, and there's an OEM version.

All I want to know is, for a fresh build, what version would you recommend I buy? Is there any real reason I should pay the extra for the Full Version?

Thanks in advance :)

The OEM version will be tied to your motherboard, if you upgrade your motherboard, you will need another copy of Win 7, or sell your system, you will have to give up your OS. But, a retail version you can move to another system (one at a time), and if you upgrade your motherboard, then your copy of Win 7 will be Ok. Also your better off getting Home Premium.

Ah, right. So to be on the safe side, the full version would be better. But with that said, by the time I buy a new motherboard, Windows 8 will be out.

Hmm, so I have to make a choice. And yeah, was gonna go Home Premium anyway, don't need the extras.

Cheers :)

and there you have it!!

Also, it's a little extra for the version w/SP1, is there any point in paying the extra? You just download that on top of the base version after it's installed anyway don't you?

Will be some resale value to Retail which will cover you, plus you don't have to worry about your mobo dying.
