Hi all, first time poster and builder looking for somewhere to post my work and get some advice as I go. Firstly i'm looking to build a pc thats not too over the top but looks good and preforms well. So far all I've got is a new case as well as an SSD and HDD. Lets see what we've got here then,

After opening, I think the case looks fantastic can't wait to get it built up, we've also got a 2Tb HDD for my data and the 128Gb Corsair SSD for the OS the case finally is the Bitfenix Shinobi green with window.

Now as I'm trying to keep the budget from going through the roof the DVD drive, ram and video card are getting pulled out of my old desktop in the short term and will be up-graded in the future as there not too bad for the time being. The current 1Tb Hdd will also be getting pulled out to act as my program drive in the new build.

Now for my first questions:

1. Just looking for someone to check that the following list of core components are compatible, from what I understand they should be but i want to make sure that they are before I go ahead and spend all my pennies.

Processor Haswell core i7-4770K (1150)

PSU XFX Pro 850W

Heatsink Raijintek Erebos

Motherboard MSI B85-G43

2. Should I invest in a better than stock thermal paste for the processor and what would you guys recommend?

Lastly just want to thank anyone that takes the time to read all this and for any advice you have. Not likely to be buying anymore parts until the end of the month when I get paid but hopefully when I do I should be able to afford all the parts I'm missing and get this up and running.

Regards,
Ben

Nothing better than your first build! Looks like your off to a fairly good start too.

As for your hardware you should post over in 'General Hardware'. There's plenty of people of there that can really help you out if you give them a budget & a list of your needs.

As I can see your chosen Motherboard isn't worth having if you want that Processor. The 4770k is unlocked for overclocking but that Motherboard doesn't allow you to overclock, you'll want a Z87 Motherboard for that. Also, you'll need to know whether your old RAM is DDR3 if you want to use it in this build.

I don't want to get into this too much because I'm sure someone in General Hardware can help more than me. :)

Anyway, best of luck in your first build. ^^

Ok cool, I shall put up a post in hardware and see what they have to say for themselves, didn't realize you couldn't overclock on all motherboards so that's immediately helped me there cheers.
