Basically, tommorow I'm going to buy this :-
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-160-CM&groupid=701&catid=7&subcat= (First new case, so went cheap ;) )

The main reason I'm buying this case is for the size- bigger than my current one. I'm also buying a new PSU tommorow, but I've never dabbled in changing cases/PSU's over before. The only thing I've ever done inside a computer is replace the RAM/Video card. Was wondering if there is anything special I should watch out for? I'm planning on labeling the wires if they're not already labeled to make sure that I don't plug them in the incorrect places, but is there any other precautions I should be taking....Other than the obvious ofc.

Thanks,
Damien. :)

I did my first case swap 3 months ago and i WISH i had taken photos!!!!

Id be ok the second time round.

Just remember to take your time, take photos. Familiarize your self before you start un plugging wires.

Make sure you use the brass spacers for your motherboard

Make sure the RAM is fully pushed into slots (borked a mobo before)

Discharge static from your self (back of a radiator)

Thats a start, no doubt people will post loads of stuff i have missed :)

thanks

Damien :p

bahh, beaten

Make sure you remember to put the stand offs in the case, in case there isnt any pre installed!

Don't want to short out your motherboard.

Just make sure everything is plugged in and seated correctly.

To be honest what i did was take out the easy stuff first and put that into the case.

I did the HD's and Dvd Rw first.

I then did fans.

I then went onto taking out GPU's or other pci cards you have.

Then power supply

Then motherboard

Crucial thing is brass stand off's for Motherboard. And no static!!

The plugs on sata's, 24 pin, ide etc pretty much can only go in one way.

MAKE SURE you know how the power button, reset button, hd light etc get connected to the mobo. As this cost me 3 hours of head scratching!!!

You need to find your manual for your mobo, but if you follow the wires from your power button on your old case you will see where they plug into the mobo header ;)

Stand off's will be in your old case you should be able to use them. BUT you should get them in your new pc

They are little 5mm/1cm brass studs to space the mobo away from the case IE no sparky sparky, shorty outey!

Haha, just did my first case swap too. Literally this week. Can't get the lights to work though, don't even think my motherboard has the headers for it :p

Sounds good to me.

Im learning all the time. This forum is great for that!

Plus OCUK have got a good setup. Good store and forum!

I shall be building a new pc once the i5 and amd show their cards on new chips :)
