Very annoyed with myself right now!

Came into a 50 zone and didn't slow the car right down, just let it roll down towards 50 under its own weight, didn't even see the Mobile van at the end of the road! Hit the anchors and slowed from 57ish to 40 probably 6-700m away but I think it was too late!

First time in 9 years ill have been caught, just hoping ill get offered a speed awareness course!

Silly Phil :(

Same thing happened to me and i didnt get a ticket if it makes you feel any better! Was going 70 and then the road dropped to 50 and like you i just sort of engine braked/let it roll down to 50. I then noticed a camera van on a bridge above the carriage way. I was doing about 57-59 when i saw the van. Then i put the brakes on obviously.

57mph in a 50 will be on the borderline of where they will/won't prosecute so you may be lucky.

I was convinced i would get a NIP but didnt!

Chances are, if you were doing 57 indicated, you were probably doing closer to 52. Dw just yet imo :)

Well deciding if you want a NIP for speeding is entirely your choice. The camera cannot aid in the issuing of a NIP by itself.

Probably not - I've not found a modern car that over reads by that much, that low down the speed range. My last 3 cars have been spot on at 30-40, 1-2mph over at 60, and 3ish mph over at 70mph.

These were "verified" with a combination of phones/satnavs - so not exactly scientific, but a good indicator nonetheless.

My wife's 07 focus over-reads by about 5mph at 70, so it's probably 4mph over at 50. that, to me, is quite a lot.

My st220 is much better...

Talking of speeding, there was a news article about cars speeding through the M5/M4 roadworks last night.
Apparently speed kills...... The top 5 speeds recorded by the average cameras was over 125mph. None of these cars crashed.
However, it mentioned that there have been lots of accidents since the roadworks started, of which the majority are at rush hour where the speed is within the speed limit!

Speed kills.....

Pretty sure you will be fine, as stated most speedometers have you doing a min of 3mph over what you are actually doing.

The only drawback might be when the van saw you rather when you saw it and started braking...

Good luck :)

Nobody to blame but myself, will have to wait and see if I get something in the post and just hope if I do I get the chance to do a speed awareness course :)

Back in the day, my friend's dad was driving some fancy new Merc when he saw a policeman up ahead with a speed gun. He hit the brakes and managed to trigger the emergency brake assist. The car rolled up to a stop right next to the copper, who looked rather puzzled to say the least.

I think a lot of police forces use the basis of 2MPH + 10% over the limit to prosecute. So if you were doing 57 you may just be lucky enough to get away with it.

I may be wrong though. But you'll more than likely be offered the speed course if you've been caught.

Most scamera vans abide by the ACPO guidelines which means they only issue a ticket above 10% +1 mph which is 56 mph

You'd need to be doing 57 mph to get a ticket. Given speedos usually over read, that would be more like 60/61 on the speedo so you should be fine

I got hit by a Gatso, it said 35 in the 30 section of that 40 road. Again like the op I rolled down from the hill but moment of concentration lapse resulted in not slowing down enough for that few hundred feet of 30mph...

Driver Awareness course was chosen, date to be confirmed :p

Technically my license is still clean!
