Hi... looking for a wee bit of advice :)

Basically it is my fathers 50th this year, and mum, sister and i would like to get him a DSLR camera. Its something he does want and has been toying with for a while now.

He is no stranger to 'proper' cameras, was keen on photography many years ago and still has his good SLR and lenses... but i think he wants to get with the times and get back into photography!

So kinda looking for info on whats good, whats to be avoided and good places to buy from... Any help would be great!

Thanks! :D

I cant remember, will investigate!

He did some minor research and came to the conclusion that his older SLR ones would not work with new DSLR Cameras, guess hes wrong?

Thanks for the information so far :D Keep it coming!

Finally had a look at what he currently has, keeping in mind i havent seen it for years!

Turns out its older than i thought...! Built between 1983 and 1985 its a Praktica MTL 5, so i very much doubt much will work with that!

Just so i can have a look, where is good online for buying? I know i could do a quick google, but id like a site people know and can trust for good prices etc :)

Right, now at the point of purchase... 40D seems too expensive to be honest, and im having a bit of a problem finding them!

They arnt on that cameraprice site and not overly willing to trust minor seeming shops that google shopping find for me :(

Badtimes.

You'll only find them used (discontiuned a while back)

Expect to pay £400 used. Buy from talkphotography or fleabay or MPB or Mifsuds or FFordes or Aperture UK.

Or buy a 30D for about £250 - 90% the same for about £250.

Cheers :)

Sadly tho, we are not going to buy my dad a used camera for his 50th... :( So will need to be new... which i know is a shame as i love 2nd hand everything! lol
