First time poster here!

Couldn't be more new to PC building, so I'm looking for a bit of guidance with what I'm planning.

I'm looking to build a solid gaming PC.

So far I've "shortlisted" these components:

Intel Haswell i5 4430
Evga gtx660 superclocked 2gb
Asus B85M-G
WD 500gb hdd
Kingston 60gb ssd
6gb crucial RAM

Obviously still in need of a PSU and a case, would love some advice on this, more so the PSU as I've heard there are haswell compatability issues.

Thanks in advance!

I'd change the GPU to

YOUR BASKET
1 x MSI HD 7870 Black Knight 2048MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card (R7870-2GD5T) with FREE GAMES £149.99
Total : £160.79 (includes shipping : £9.00).

You get free games and a faster GPU Link

The motherboard is ok, but it is a budget board and won't offer any real overclocking potential. As long as you're happy with that it isn't a bad choice.

For cases it'd be a shame not to take advantage of USB 3.0 headers so a case with USB 3.0 ports would be best..something like this

YOUR BASKET
1 x BitFenix Shinobi "Core" USB3.0 Gaming Case - Black £46.99
Total : £58.09 (includes shipping : £9.25).

PSU wise you are always best to buy a quality unit from a reputable manufacturer. Something like this won't break the bank and will be more than adequate.

YOUR BASKET
1 x Seasonic S12II 520W '80 Plus Bronze' Power Supply £59.99
Total : £70.49 (includes shipping : £8.75).

Best of luck with the build :D

What's your budget?

Well my original budget was £550-600 but that has long gone. I'm now just trying to keep costs down.

Thanks ExRayTed, I'm currently out and about but will have a more in depth look at your suggestions ASAP!

About the PSU, is there any way to tell in the specs if a certain power supply will be compatible with a haswell processor?

an alternative, amd build, if you're not totally set on haswell.
with your budget, you cant really get an overclockable haswell, so a 6 core amd overclockable cpu may provide better value.
if you want to cut something, drop the cpu cooler for the moment to bring it down to budget.
you can sell the games that come with the gpu to lower the final cost of the rig even more
