My master bedroom nothing has happened yet in box room and 2nd room (mould?) happened on window side of the wall and on the windows...

what is the reason for this and how can i fix it?

VENTILATION!

Had to be a source of moisture to cause it, get the widow open, should wash off with some warm water & bleach.

EDIT: I got a bottle of Astonish Mould & Mildew cleaner from Wilkinson I think, very good cleaner.

Do you dry your clothes in the house over the radiators during the winter months?

yes but not in the rooms it happened.

@Nightglow how can I improve the Ventilation? In winter windows have to stay close to keep the house warm... sorry am new to this.

Definitely looks like condensation. Not drying clothes inside will help, but you'll always get condensation on the windows in the winter due to the temperature difference between inside and out.

Wipe moisture off the window frames when you see it, clean off any mould as soon as it appears, and don't worry that you've got any kind of major damp problem :)

HG Mould Spray is what you want. Smells like pure chlorine but does the job superbly.

This stuff really has got it where it counts. Its great for things like bathroom silicone and shower grout, etc. Great stuff. Not sure about your windows though.

Mould on wooden window sills can be quite bad sometimes in that it can end up rotting your window frames. It seems that some houses just tend to be susceptible to condensation more than others. My last rented single glazed house was horrific but my new owned house is double glazed and I have the vents on all windows open 24/7, 365 days a year. I do dry my clothes inside but I don't have condensation problems but I don't know where that moisture is going!!

It can be a pain though because you really don't want to open the windows during a harsh winter for the sake of ventilation.

That haapendeds on single glazed sash windows. You just have to wipe it regularly and make sure the windows are well varnished/painted to stop them rotting.

It is normally worse in rooms with less windows. Not sure why.

You'll find it happens in the bedroom overnight because of 2 things that happen at the same time - the colder air outside combined with the volume of moist air that the average human breathes out over the 6-8 hour period (damp expert advised this was my problem).

The way round it is relatively simple and worked for me. I leave my windows open very slightly during the day and this clears all the condensation off the windows and allows the room to breathe during this time. In the evening, close the windows to keep the room warm for sleeping in.

Failing that, get a dehumidifier.

I found some windows were worse than others. The window at the top of the stairs was always pretty bad for some reason.

The windows were also quite rotten in parts and never closed properly. They certainly never made a seal when closed. They were always drafty so heat never stayed in the house for long, it was always freezing. The front door was the worst though as you could just feel the cold air blasting into the room. That was one horrible house. Glad I'm no longer there.
