Having passed my test recently, I'm looking at insurance. Some people are saying to go for Third Party Fire & Theft, others are saying Fully Comprehensive.

I'm inclined to go for TPF&T.

Opinions?

It depends on the car you have.

If you own a car worth £500 then fully comp is pointless as you will prob have an excess of £250 min. So you will claim and lose your NCB gains? Not worth it!

But if you have a £10,000 car then it is well worth it, and if the car is new on finance then getting GAP insurance may also be worth while.

Fully Comp with a massive excess (That'd I'd never pay because I wouldn't claim for my own car) seems to work out cheaper than TPFT for me.

Did you know parking on your road not on your drive or garage lowers your insurance too :)

As does adding a 2nd named driver (lady over 30 with no accidents - mum or aunty etc)

also annual estimated mileage gets it down a fair bit.

with est 10k miles my fully comp insurance was £700 for a corsa, 3 years drivin, 3 ncb.

i did another quote with just 2k estimated miles and it went to £469 fully comp.

TPFT works out to £435 so only £30 cheaper for me.

depends on the insurance company , admiral group it will help the price with mum , dad or older driver on the policy.

with mileage thou cant put in 2k if he is doing 10k as it would void the insurance, can try 9999 instead of 10k which will sometimes drop you in to a different grouping for your mileage

the only way they would know is if you crashed and had to go through the insurance.

they would only find out by checking the MOT certificate. :)

may aswel put his occupation down as a policeman and no points or claims if he has any aswel then

Fully comp with a £750-1000 excess was cheaper for me than TPFT. Seeing as my car is only worth a bit more than that I just went with it.

My car is worth circa £700 I'd say, possibly a packet of fags more.....

I still insure it F/C though, probably because the difference between F/C & TPF&T - for me, nearing 40 :o - was about £20 !
