Hi there I am new to the forums as this is my first time I have looked at over clocking my computer.

My System is as Follows:
GA-M720-US3 (rev. 1.0)
AMD Phenom II X2 555 Black Edition 3.2GHz Socket AM3 6MB Cache
Akasa Venom Socket 775, 1156 A1366, AMD 939, AM2, AM2+ & AM3 Heatpipe CPU Cooler (With 2 Fans
4g DDR2 DRAM 800Mhz kingston

I am hoping to unlock it to quad core.
If any one has any hints or tips and what is the max i could over clock it to with this setup it would help a lot.

Thanks for looking.

You might be able to reach 3.8ghz if you're lucky. 3.6ghz at least on stock volts. Since you have a BE chip you can just move the multipier. A longer method I find is overclocking via FSB if you want, but then you have to be careful with the RAM speed. I find doing it 10mhz at a time then 5mhz after it gets instable is a nice way to do it.

Would I be able to unlock to quad core in bios or do I need another program?

This is what trusted reviews said:

Things took a turn for the better when we switched to the triple core Phenom II X3 720 as the Gigabyte has a trick up its sleeve. In the BIOS you can use a hidden option Ctrl-F1 to enter Advanced Chipset Features and then you can enable Nvidia Core Calibration and turn on the fourth core in this triple core processor. Gigabyte is somewhat coy about this feature as Ctrl-F1 isn't mentioned on the POST screen and neither does it appear in the manual. We would have been none the wiser if we hadn't been shown a Gigabyte marketing presentation that explained how to unleash the fourth core.

Worth a try

Bios

I have just checked the bios version and its F6 is this the right bios version? (read on tomshardware for some more research) I found that the bios version means it might not allow me unlock the 4 cores is this right?
Finally if the bios version is the wrong version is there a way I can back date it?

Sorry I dont know but the only way to find out is try .

Yes you can force a bios flash of older bios using a dos based bios flasher and the correct perameters.
