First time overclocking 1090T

Hi everyone :) this is the first time I've tried to overclock anything before
so really just asking for pointers and advice.

I overclocked my 1090T to 3.8GHz and it was stable after ~15mins on
Prime95. All I really did was up the voltage to 1.35v and put the multiplier to
19.

I am using a corsair H70 for cooling and core temp reports 17-20C idle at
stock speeds and a few degrees higher idle when at 3.8GHz. While running
Prime95 it went to 43C.

I know I need to run Prime95 for longer but I'm not really sure what to do
next. 4GHz is my goal but I've read that from 3.8 upwards it can be a little
trickier to keep stable.

Any help is appreciated :)

Here are some screenies for you:

Dont use core temp for reading temperature as it is not accurate on the 6 core AMD cpus along with the individual core temperatures as they are just software estimates not actual measured temperatures. Your cpu temperature was actually 52C as reported by hardware monitor.

The maximum recomended temperature for the 1090T is 62C. Try running prime for longer and see what temperature you get to though 52C seems a little high for 3.8GHz & 1.35v. What fans have you got on the H70?

Thanks for the heads up about core temp.

I have 2 noctua fans on there because they are quieter than the stock
corsair ones. I think the high temp may be from my pc not being in a
great position. It is a haf-x and the top exaust fan is up against the
underside of the desk. Not ideal I know :(

Hopefully it should be being moved soon, should I lay off it until it gets
moved?

What speed are the noctua fans on the H70 running at, though 2 fans should provide enough airflow even at the lowest speed.

Having the case under the desk is not ideal but shouldnt cause temps to get that high. Is the area under the desk open or enclused by panels?

How many intake & exhaust fans have you got on the case as if there are more exhaust fans than intake you will end up with negative air pressure which will raise temps as there wont be enough fresh air getting into the case to provide proper cooling.

Try running prime for 15 - 20 minutes with the PC as is & record max temp then do it again with the side panel of the case off & see if you get lower temps. If the temps are lower with the side panel off then that will indicate a lack of airflow into the case.

If I remember correctly there is the h70 drawing air in from the back of the case, a 200mm top
exhaust fan, a 120mm intake at the front and a 200mm side intake fan. Also inside the case is a 120mm fan blowing air through the case across the graphics card. So air is taken in through
the front and then pushed over the gfx card.

Perhaps reversing the side intake fan to an exhaust? I also plan to buy a second 200mm fan to exhaust at the top of the case.

The desk space is open but the case is so tall it pretty much reaches the underside of the
desk. There is a clearance of around an inch

Edit: I'm not sure of the fan speeds, I'll check when I get home

you should be aiming for 4ghz with a cpu-nb of 2600 at least mate.

4ghz/2400 @1.42v with full llc control (took me to 1.46v) used to top out at 62degrees c with my h50 (during summer time 24hr prime test) in an antec 902. might want to get some apaches for that h70 (intake) and you'll be reet ;) - noctua's dont have a high cfm. if ur bothered about noise use a fan controller

keep all fans as intake other than the top one for best performance.

check out the overclocking phenom II thread for tips and other peoples specs.

Why is it that my core temps report to be more than 10C lower than the cpu
temp? Where are each of the sensors? Sorry if my questions seem mundane,
but I have read elsewhere that there is usually only a few degrees between
the two.

I have now ordered a second 200mm fan to help exhaust air :)

The temperatures stated for the cores are not measured temperatures they are software generated estimates. There aren't any sensors measuring the core temperatures, only sensors measuring the cpu temperature that is why you cant go by the core temperatures & why they are always wrong on the 6 core AMD cpus.

Hi there

I have the 1090T BE and this is what rjkoneill told me to use to get mine at a stable 4Ghz overclock due to BSOD (overclocked whilst he was away) after getting my Titan Prism bundle from OcUK:

CPU Ratio: 20
CPU Frequency: 200
CPU/NB: 2000Mhz
HTT: 2000Mhz
DDR3@ 1600
dram timing control - 9-9-9-24/2T @ 1.65v (stock for RAM)

voltages:
CPU: 1.425v
CPU-NB: 1.3v

All other settings can be left on auto

Not sure about your memory timings. I have had this running fine since and been over a year. Hope this helps. p.s. i have the H50 and my idle temp is about 36 degrees C.
